I tried, but I couldn't finish this book. I guess I'm just not a fan of Twain's sense of humor, although in theory I do appreciate his blasphemous fun-poking at the Bible.

Twain delves into many insights that I've never explored before. It still intrigues me to know what his best friend the Rev. Joseph Twichell thought of these works that were very critical of the religion that he preached? I suppose we shall never know.

This book is worth reading every couple of years for any Mark Twain fan. He compiles the best of his humor and satirical writing. You can't read one page without laughing out loud.

Right or wrong as I read this, I started to think it was less intended to be enjoyed as a book in and of itself, but rather to have been enjoyed as one in any number of books all about understanding and appreciating Mark Twain. Alone, it was repetitive and difficult to slog through.

I was trying to use this as a reference for a paper I am writing on Twain's use of religion and superstition in Huckleberry Finn. Aside from failing to find anything usable, I found it almost unreadable. Yes, I do understand much of it was written as satire. However, for someone who claimed to have read the entire Bible, Clemens sadly did not comprehend it. So much of his petulant ranting about "the God of the Bible vs the God of the modern world" is so far off-base that there is no enjoyment to be found in it; rather it is sad that a gifted writer was so tormented and led astray, to the extent that this is what tortured his mind through to his final years, even to the point that he regretted robbing his wife of her faith with his own doubts and struggles. I was seeking something to tie Clemens' personal views to Huck's views, and while the seeds are certainly here, the vitriol is too much.

The Diaries of Adam and Eve are great. I'm not much of a Mark Twain fan (I know, I know...) so I didn't enjoy many of the selections, but the editor's notes were good and the texts were thoughtfully presented.

'Letters from the Earth' valió por todo el libro, ¡me encantó! Aunque también los diarios de Adán y Eva fueron divertidos.

This book literally helped me get out of an apocalyptic cult. Thank you, Mr. Clemens.

A fantastic collection of essays, diaries, and stories. Some of Twain's most interesting and satirical works dealing with the Bible and religion. Particularly of interest are the pieces that were deemed too risque to publish during his lifetime. An essential read for any atheist, freethinker, agnostic, and Twain lover.

I've only finished Extracts from Adam's Diary and Eve's Diary. Both were very enjoyable. I'll continue reading selections from this from time to time.
