I didn’t care for Brian’s winter adventure as much as I did the last one....maybe it was the narrator.

This book was an amazing book to read, because it kept me on my toes the whole time. It had a lot of of description about what was going on. The main character, Brian, is lost in the wilderness and has been surviving the elements of the Canadian winter. He has been attacked by bears, wolves, moose, and much more and is lucky to be alive. It is a great book for kids and even adults if they like adventure books. "Brian's Winter" is a great book to read on a weekend or before you go to bed if you want to stay up late. You are not going to be able to put this book down.

I feel like the third book in the saga was not as profound or thrilling as the first. Maybe its just me, but the story was at its best when the character had limited resources and showcased the inner struggles of survival.

As a child I never knew that Brian's Winter was in a sense, a sequel to Hatchet. I adored Hatchet and was interested in reading Brian's Winter when I found out about it. I picked it up in a classroom one day when I was subbing. I thought I would be able to read it cover to cover over the course of the day but I just didn't quiet make it. I had to borrow it from another teacher so I could finish the last three chapters. I was very impressed with the book. Brian's character changed a lot during his struggle for winter survival. There were aspects of the book that made me stop and think. Brian's observations about the nature of animals and their survival was interesting. It made me stop and think about hunting and how I feel about it. As an adult, I enjoyed this book as much as I did with all of Paulsen's books as a child.

Brian’s Winter by Gary Paulsen is an inspiring story about a boy caught in the wilderness. This alternative ending to the award winning book Hatchet has many of the same elements as the first book, but is certainly not a copy. The first book is all about survival, and Brian fights everyday to do so. But this second addition is less about surviving, and more about living. After Brian prepares his shelter for winter, he can survive for a long period of time with the resources available to him, but he won’t truly be living. Join Brian in the adventure of learning the true value behind life; I promise it will be worth your while.

“Brian’s Winter” is a story about a 13 year old boy named Brian. This story is a “what if” scenario from the story the “Hatchet” where Brian was in a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness. In the “Hatchet” Brian was rescued at the end of the book, but in this story Brian was never rescued and is forced to survive in a brutal Canadian winter. Overcoming animal attacks and the harsh winter, he eventually gets rescued and returns home. It is a quick read and a great survival story, I would recommend this book to ages 12 and up.

I would totally recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and mystery. This book series is what got me into reading books and this book, by far, has topped it off. In the beginning it's basically like a normal "Hatchet" book until about chapter 4 or 5 when it starts to become winter. Brian at first, really doesn't mind, as a smart kid like him, and can tell that the weather will keep going down and not stop. Brian decides that his normal small bow is not enough, so he wants to build a big bow. Which he called the War Bow, he really struggled making the bow and he was trying to think back to the past how Native American's made their bows to hunt. He realized to make arrows, to use stone arrowheads which at first doesn't go well until he finds the perfect rock to chip off from creating perfect arrowheads. I can't really go much further without spoiling the awesome ending of this book, but what I will say, is Brian is good at hunting in the winter, and the way he got rescued was BY FAR the best and coolest way ever. This book was amazing and I'm pretty sure it was better than "The River" and "Hatchet" no joke!

What would've happened if Brian had never been rescued by the helicopter and had to stay for the winter? "Brian's Winter" was a book that showed me that someone can survive out in the wilderness. Brian was boy in his teens that got stranded in an island. Winter was coming soon so he had to build shelter. With his imagination in his left pocket, he made a little hut out of dried mud. He sometimes came in conflict with a bear that wreaked his hut, but other than that, it was safe. The way he hunts is that be built a bow and arrow and later on in the book, he builds a spear to hunt bigger game. He started out small; rabbits and birds, but eventually started eating deers and bucks. But one night, while he was sleeping, he heard a gunshot in the air. Is he going to be saved? I rated this book a 9 out of 10 because it shows how a teenager can use his minds to the limits to protect himself in the wilderness.

The book I read was Brian's Winter which is the alternate ending to the book Hatchet. The main character is Brian and in this book it tells what happens to Brian if he wasn't rescued in the first book. Since this is an alternate ending Brian is still in the same place as in Hatchet except now he has to go through a harsh winter. He will learn more respect for nature and understand it more than ever. He will also become a better hunter and make more weaponry. The first and second book of Brian's Saga are more believable that Brian's Winter because most people would die from the cold even with a fire and Brian is able to do everything almost as well in freezing temperatures. It was still a good book because it was interesting to know what would happen to Brian if he wasn't rescued.

Luke Melroy 9/6/16 ttBrian’s Winter, By Gary Paulsen

Brian’s Winter is a continuation of the book “Hatchet” , By Gary Paulsen, Where Brian, a teenage boy and the only main character in this story, survives an airplane crash in the middle of the canadian wilderness, where there’s no civilization for miles. In hatchet, Brian struggles to survive with nothing but his clothes and a hatchet.

In Brian’s Winter, Brian is stronger and has become used to surviving in the wilderness. He has food, water, and shelter, and is overall doing pretty good. But there’s something coming that will change everything for brian. Winter.

In Brian’s Winter, Brian will have to struggle through winter in the Canadian wilderness. He will have to adapt and find new ways to keep warm and hunt. Will Brian survive? Read Brian’s Winter to find out. I recommend Reading “Hatchet” By Gary Paulsen before reading this, and if you liked Hatchet, or any book about survival, I recommend this book to you.

(3.5 Stars) The author said after writing Hatchet, he received many requests to write about what would happen if Brian hadn't been rescued and had to go through a winter alone, so he decided to write about it.

I don't know if I could survive the way Brian did and in my mind, he's just a kid! I don't know how he was able to come up with all these survival techniques, but he somehow did. And he seemed to thrive. I like my alone time, but I think I would go crazy being alone day after day for months.

My son and I read this aloud and we enjoyed watching Brian figure things out. There's more maturity to his thoughts and it shows in the writing style. I wanted a little more from the ending, but that aside, it was a good, adventurous read. Word of caution: this story is more gruesome than the first. He obviously has to kill animals for meat in order to survive and some of the details are fairly graphic and detailed.
