Geschiedenis is geweldig!!

3.5 stars. I really liked the description of the weaving process of the Flemish tapestries, starting with the drawings, the daily lives of artisans and nobles, and to imagine life in Brussels at that time. I kept this book so I could read it while visiting the city and it was great to visit some of the places described in it. This being said, I would have liked the book to have more historical information and less romance, which at times even seemed a bit cheesy...

What a load of rubbish.
The Girl with Pearl Earing was good but too short in my view. But very good.
The Blue Virgin was much better.
Remarkable Creatures was excellent.
But this one was poor quality porn!
Couldn't finish it!

Tracy Chevalier has imagined the creation of a set of tapestries about which not much is known, somehow making a story about weaving tapestries very compelling. But of course, it's not just about the tapestries but also about the people involved with them - namely the "ladies" whose stories are woven into them. This is a really strange book but really inventive. I would like to know about Chevalier's writing process for this one.
