I enjoyed this story, not as much as Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine, but it was good. She writes in a real way with real thoughts. Ya, it's not all happy, so I can see not everyone enjoying it. But it's nice to read a book that isn't so far-fetched.
Thanks to my friend, Trish, for recommending this author.

I am delving into juvenile literature, and enjoyed this story. I felt it missed the mark of being a great book but it an excellent read. What initially drew me to the book was the visual I had of a kid that wasn't just poor, but also maybe neglected. I particularly liked how the author has the main character Vinnie experience and express her emotions of sadness and anger over the death of her father.

This book has a touching story. A young girl and her brother moved schools and are having a hard time making new friends. The "flip flop girl" is not the main character, it is actually a young girl that is a little different than other children.

This book would be good for any young girl that is having trouble making friends and meeting others.

Some good Katherine Paterson reading. She does a great job with creating a character that the reader simultaneously feels empathy for and disgusted with.

I'm reading the book called "The Flip Flop Girl" and the main character is Vinnie. She having a problem because she's already dealing with the death of her father and her mom is forcing her and her brother to go live in Virginia with her grandma. I feel bad for Vinnie because she's not going to be living with her mother anymore. I wonder do she meet any new friends at her new school. I wonder would she miss her mom and wanting to go back. Would her mother ever come back and visit them at all, or would she be remarried.

I loved this book! Like some of Patterson's other books, it's very intense, but it was wonderful to read.

This book was phenomenal. I absolutely loved the complexity of every single character in this book and what's more is that these complexities are written in a way that students who read this book could also recognize these authentic nuances. It does take place in the past so there is a need to prepare students for this but the book confronts the timeless issues of death, family, grief, heartbreak, and belonging in a heartwarming way that can be appreciated by all.

This book isn’t particularly exceptional but for whatever reason I feel compelled to rate it 4 stars instead of 3. The story could’ve definitely benefited from a bit more explanation and details but I really liked the characters. I feel Paterson truly understands the minds of children and it’s apparent in her characters.

Raw moments that masterfully capture the pain we navigate on the journey through childhood. Just beautifully done.

Completely forgot I read this until the name "Lupe Mahoney" randomly popped into my head to day. No idea why.
