Well that was disappointing. I'm in a rough patch with some of my favorite authors producing drivel. Nothing to read here. 2 of 10 stars

n  They were the ones that stories are never about. Stories are not, on the whole, interested in swineherds who remain swineherds and poor and humble shoemakers whose destiny is to die slightly poorer and much humbler. These people were the ones who made the magical kingdom work, who cooked its meals and swept its floors and carted its night soil and were its faces in the crowd and whose wishes and dreams, undemanding as they were, were of no consequence. Don't hate me for this, but the Witches storyline isn't one of my favorites. At the risk of being stoned to death in the Goodreads commons . . . Shrek did this concept better.

Yes, yes--boo, hiss, etc. It's still Terry Pratchett, which makes it a better and more enjoyable read than a lot of other novels. I'm just pretty apathetic towards Granny Weatherwax, and I really quite dislike Magrat. Nanny Ogg is plain brilliant, however, an absolute joy of a character, and her letters to home were, in my opinion, the comic highlight of the book.

I had a good time, as is standard, but I think City Watch and Death are still my top two sub-series.

Terry Pratcett delivers yet another absoloutely fantastic sci-fi book. It's smart, and quick and funny and delivers a great message if you read between the lines and look past the one-liners. Also it gives a great-big punch to all those fairy tale cliches that we love to hate so if you're a fan of his work this is a great read .
