This book originally reminded me of the old TV series, Remington Steel. Woman invents a man because she feels her work will not be accepted if people know it is a woman doing the work. Instead of a detective agency, this is an author. And just like in Remington Steel, a handsome gent with a questionable past, steps in and makes himself the male alter ego of our heroine. In the beginning there are some really funny parts, and great lines and it had me thinking that this would be like the show, then things took a dark turn. There are lots of possible villains in the story, guys you love to hate, and they get eliminated one by one until only two are standing and Abby, our author, has to decide who to trust with her book and her life. Truly enjoyed this.
An unusual plot narrated in a racy style! If a copywriter calls it 'unputdownable', I wouldn't disagree. Yet the climax was probably what the script-writer of any Bollywood potboiler would have thought up! However, this doesn't stop me from pursuing Steve Martini or recommending him as a delightful writer.
