Gripping story. Helped to get through these dog days of summer. Loved the cynical depiction of the halls of power in Washington.

I hope a scenario like this never evolves. But even if doesn't—even if all stores of nuclear materials in the world are successfully prevented from getting into the hands of greedy bad guys and rogue states—it's hard to defend against human incompetence. I've seen this happen: In the town where I live, we went through a terrifying experience when nuclear fission was accidentally triggered inside a tin shed, due to a combination of ignorance, laziness and incompetence. No enormous sums of money changing hands were needed to achieve that result.

It started off really well, then just dove-tailed into a military thriller. It wasn't bad, just typical.

Decent action thriller. The promised double crosses weren't really that shocking.

Very unusual story line. A nucular device is loose in the United States; consequently from our president down to a diplomate from the Netherlands, all manner of"we've got to find it" actions take place involving some interesting characters and dilemmas.
I would recommend this book to all who enjoy a good action based book.

Maybe I’ve read or seen too many movies on this theme already, or maybe it is just not Mr. Martini’s forte compared to his legal mysteries. It is written like a movie script – possibly an anticipation that doesn’t work as well in a novel. Other reviewers have commented on some of its deficiencies, and some others praise it highly. It is reasonable entertainment, especially if you think of it like a movie, but it’s not the most intriguing or “mystery” plot that he has written. It didn’t read as quickly, smoothly, or anxiously as other novels of his have for me.
There were intimations of very poor consistency in the plotline earlier, but the ending dropped my rating from passable entertainment to nearly junk. A complete disregard for the realities of nuclear chemistry to create a tear-jerking horror movie type of finish was unnecessary and negligent.

Terrific book. Love it when a book grips me from the beginning. Looks like there may be another book to follow. This is an older book that someone gave me, so I will have to check to see what follows this particular book.

I really give this a 3 1/2 star rating, as it kept my attention straight through. The reason it’s not 4 stars is that it was just a bit facile, the characters a little pat, the bad guys a little too bad. The strengths lay in an interesting plot with lots of moving parts, and fascinating parallels to current times. Published in 1998, the terrorist plans were prescient, referencing both homegrown and foreign actors. But I enjoy a good thriller, and will read more by this writer.

Another quick page turning suspense thriller for Steve Martini. It's full of double crosses and it makes you wonder how the government functions with people lacking the qualities unsuitable for their particular purpose.

A lot of action keeps it moving right along. I had some problems with technical stuff, though. Picky picky!
