I liked this story. Maybe because so much of it hits close to home. One of those books with sticking power. I'm forever checking my spoon in the sink.
Lengthy, and seems to go on to another story entirely, but it all fits together. Enjoyed audiobook. Language a bit crass at times.

I enjoy the sagas Courtenay seems to write. This was no exception and I had a fondness for most of the characters and their individual storylines.
I was slightly disappointed that he chose to wrap it all up so quickly at the end. As if he felt he'd written enough and needed to close.
I will read more of his work for sure

I enjoy Bryce Courtney. As of my writing though, it’s been a long time since I read this book; almost a year and a half. The details, along with my notes, have disappeared. But I do remember the big concepts. … A reoccurring theme, the author celebrates the ‘righteous struggle’. In this one, its with nature and its wild fires – as well as garbage trucks, the clothing industry, women’s rights and the torments of war and PTSD – while every nook and cranny of the powerful story oozes AUSTRALIA.

I always feel better after reading a Courtney novel.

A very easy read, but he tends to make everything just a little bit too epic. I loved the examination of the time and the place, but did the one family _have_ to conquer the whole world?
