I truly enjoyed this trilogy learning about the history of the Brits in Australia and their impact (both good and bad) on the country through the eyes of the Solomon family. Heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time.

This was a very long book for me, I got through it and enjoyed every bit!

My first and only reading venture in the three part Potato Factory experience. Fortunately, there is adequate introduction to the two families in this book that an experience of the earlier two books is unnecessary.

Very well written and researched.

A very colorful account of the Gallipoil landing.

Finishing this book felt like an accomplishment - it was so long and I had trouble remembering all the characters and how they related to each other at first.
This was my second Bryce Courtenay book in a row, and I did prefer the previous one. So many of the characters were unlikeable. He writes warfare so well though.

The third installment in the Australian historical series about convicts sent from England in the 19th century to Van Dieman's land (Tasmania), a harsh penal settlement.

Sometimes hard to read because of sadness, but the characters are engaging, and I am sad to see this series end.

I enjoyed this last book in the trilogy more than the previous one. After telling the story of Ikey Solomon and Mary Abacus in book 1, and of Tommo and Hawk in book 2, now it's the turn for the third generation. This is a family history but it's also very intertwined with the history of Australia. Courtenay, as always, is a great storyteller, but he's also rather merciless with the characters and the readers. The last part of the novel is a very intense look into the horrors and butchery of war (WWI in this case).

A disappointing ending to the trilogy. Most of the characters from the first two books are dead or sidelined. Hawk is still alive, but his role seems to be giving political lectures. The next-generation characters are undeveloped and most of the details in the book are about the war. And, to top it off, the ending is terribly depressing.

"Solomon's Song” is the last of the trilogy. Although this particular book was not as compelling as the other books. Carried across three amazing books, the story of three generations unfold.

When the story finally came to its conclusion I found the end of Solomon's Song rather sudden and it left me wondering......" so is that it?" However, Bryce Courtney is now my new favourite writer, jut like Ken Follett, he is an amazing storyteller!

Really good wind up of the Potato Factory series./ However, I felt the ending a little rushed. It didn't cover what happened to the Sister and Hawk after the brother died. Loose ends! Mind you, it was a fairly hefty read so maybe that would be another story........

This epic story set in Australia and New Zealand starting in the late 1800's and ending in 1918 was a really good read. I loved the characters and learning more about the Australian 'personality'. The ending was sad, but not unexpected. I learned quite a bit about WWI and the part the Aussies and New Zealanders played in it.
