This is truly a treasure of a dragon's tale! I expect nothing less from Tolkien and was perfectly sated with his prose and characters. An endearing classic.

I was surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did. Medieval settings and tales of knights and dragons are really not my thing. But this short sweet tale was entertaining and light-hearted enough for me to really get into it. In fact, the only downside to this for me was that the main character Giles was a bit of a dick who needlessly abuses his poor dog who idolises him. So maybe if you're reading it to your kids you might want to make a point about that not being an okay thing to do?? Other than that though this was fun and definitely a recommended read if you want something quick and adventurous but don't want to commit to Tolkien's longer works.

Gostei bastante do mestre Gil, o personagem simples e sortudo que me lembrou bastante o Bilbo bolseiro.

Farmer Giles of Ham
Author: J.R.R Tolkien

The well-fed Farmer Giles lives in the lands of Ham together with his dog named Garm.

Giles turns into a beloved hero when he chases a giant from the lands. He himself was actually responsible for this danger but tells nobody that.

Once you're a hero, people expect you to protect them. This leaves him with the arduous task of slaying a dragon that destroyed the villagers their lands.

The storyline is easy to follow and has the perfect length combined with a lot of humour.

I just didn't understand why Garm the dog was often abused in the story, for me this had no form of addition and I don't think this is very appropriate in a children's story.

Trigger warnings:
Animal abuse

I love the humor laced through this awesome little tale. Tolkien is a master of storytelling, and this one was just fun. As I was listening to Mr. Jacobi narrate, I thought about how many times I’d likely be reading this to my sons in the future. I know they’ll love it just as I did.

Delightful. Especially the dragons debating the mythical existence of knights.
