I think I always meant to read Zilpha Keatley Snyder when I was younger and never got around to it. I picked up a couple of books second-hand a few years ago. She has quite a remarkable ability to write about troubled children who, frankly, kind of act like dicks, but in a way that is kind and sympathetic as well as gently humorous. This was a really lovely story. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.

Zilpha Keatley Snyder's books are pure nostalgic fun for me. She writes imaginative young people very well. In this book, an unhappy preteen, fascinated by the occult, convinces her newly blended family that their rickety old house is haunted. She orchestrates elaborate schemes to back up her argument...bt some of the mysterious happenings in the house seem to defy explanation.

Another "Halloween" book I found while going through all my bookshelves. A fun read but I feel no need to read any more of this series, the characters just did not resonate with me. Poltergeists are not my favorite ghost stories but this one wasn't bad.
