I have read others of Truman Daniels mysteries and enjoyed them, but this one--eh! not so much. We listened to the cd and it just never got my attention.
Good mystery. Story started out a little slow but picked up. Also keeping track of who was on what side got confusing. Liked the political side of it. Doe not show politicians in a good light which is sad but true. Plan to read more of her books.
Entertaining crime novel set in Washington, an old man returns to the USA (however this man has a history as a mafia informant) when he is murdered questions are asked.
Margaret Truman, daughter of President Truman, has the inside scoop on Washington D.C. In addition to her fast-paced plots, I enjoy reading about the various neighborhoods her characters travel through in the nation's capital. In Murder at Union Station, an ambitious writer becomes involved in a murder investigation when the subject of his upcoming book is shot moments after he steps off the train at Union Station. Truman combines politics, mystery and a touch of romance in this page-turner.
I read this mystery out of curiosity. Several years ago, we visited the Harry Truman museum in Independence, MO, and his daughter's mysteries were available in the gift shop. I chose this one simply because I remembered how beautiful the re-do of Union Station had been. The story is ok, but the characters are pretty flat (except for the cop, Det. Mullin). It is interesting to read a book written 18 years ago since Truman's view of D.C. politics is apparently timeless.
A former hitman for the mob arrives at Union Station in DC and is murdered. He was arriving from Israel to appear before a Senate committee to validate what was written in a new book where he claims that, twenty years earlier, he was hired by the CIA to assassinate a visiting leader of a foreign country. At the time the head of the CIA was a man that is now the current president of the US who is seeking a second term. The author of the book has tapes and papers of the hitman stating what he did 20 years earlier and now everyone is after them.
I have been enjoying the Margaret Truman books, especially the ones that have Mac and Annabel in them! This book was pretty entertaining, with a good plot and plenty of excitement, but it was a little drawn out compared to others. I will keep reading this series though!
Nov 2021. Upon further reading, it seems this story has been pared to make a complete novel own it is only a novella. Possibly some of the politicians came too close to home in 2021.
5-22-2016 Seems like a unique premise in murder mystery stories. It certainly doesn't make Washington DC the place many of us want to spend time working but it sure is a great vacation and tourist venue. We actually were wedding guests at the Union Station of Washington DC. Great venue!
