This story by Dune's Frank Herbert written in 1967 holds up remarkably well nearly fifty years later. Even with some outdated references (ie. LSD) many of the story's issues are relevant today. What is reality and what makes us human? How much should we as individuals allow ourselves to be subsumed for the greater good? What can/should communities do to protect themselves against consumer driven/corrupt/ materialistic American power/government/gods? The main character's mood swings were a bit distracting, but the ideas still thought provoking.
