I’m just curious. Is there anyone else who was satisfied with the ending? Because I believe I did. Although I ship Jo and Laurie so hard and it apparently broke my heart into pieces when it came to that chapter, I also think that they both eventually ended up with the right ones.

It doesn’t mean that I didn’t want them to be together, I did. I truly did but if they ended up together, would they be happy with their married life? This question kept coming up in my mind because Jo and Laurie were so much alike. Would it be better if they were just best friends to one another?

P.S. Despite the truth and what the author wrote, I’ll continue shipping Jo & Laurie and I’ll ship them in my heart forever!

Two years ago, I read the first part of this novel and quite liked it. The March family consists of the most endearing characters, and I had fun reading about the four sisters and their growing up.
However, it wasn't until recently that I realized that I had yet to read the second part, which I set out to do. It was so great being back with these sisters and follow them in their future adventures, and I must say that I actually find the second part the strongest. It contains hopes and disappointments equally balanced, and it made me long to read even more about the four sisters (which part one didn't necessarily do).
This is a beautiful, moralizing story that we can all learn from. It speaks of how the world would be a much better place if we all lives according to Mrs. March's beliefs and education, and it makes for a wonderful story on growing up and being part of a family.

Some classics come with a shelf life and feel like a relic of the past if read beyond their era.

Some classics are dated but still enjoyable as the values they espouse are timeless.

This one is firmly in category two. Many of the ideas might not be as relevant today, almost 155 years after its first publication. But the characters are still appealing, the writing still attractive, and the themes, still satisfying.

Jo and Beth are still my strong favourites, as are Laurie and Prof. Bhaer. This reread has been as much of a treat as expected.

Not gonna change my rating – this entire series is my firm favourite.
