The only Shakespeare collection you'll ever need. There's nothing I love more than lugging around the Anglophile's companion. Except, maybe, reading The Tempest or watching Kate Winslet as Mary Ann in Sense and Sensibility recite Sonnet 116.

This is a great collection of all of Shakespeare's plays and poetry, with insightful commentary on every play. I was required to have this book when I majored in Literature in college, and I still read from it.

Shakespeare is Shakespeare when you're reading him. However, this is everything Shakespeare ever wrote, plays, sonnets, and poems. Each play is informatively introduced and meticulously footnoted. This is the only shakespeare you will ever need to buy.

This really shoudl be used as a reference book, very cumbersome, much better to have single books of his plays, their much more enjoyable that way too, since you don't have to feel like you're reading a textbook.

Well, I was lucky enough to find this for 50 cents at a yard sale! I am most of the way through, and it is highly informative, elegantly printed, and sturdy. It contains lots of background on the plays, with color prints of artifacts and portraits from Shakespeare's era.

Seriously, this is it. all you need. everything written by him and more. it weighs 30 pounds, is thousands of pages long and is bigger then most of my medical textbooks, but that just increases it's awesomeness ffar as I'm concerned.

I actually own two complete works'. Have read a lot as an English major, but started at age 11.

One day, I will finally read every word by the man available. THEN, maybe I'll join the debate about whether HE actually wrote all this or not. ;)

One of the only books we kept from college, not only was it expensive, but it's the most comprehensive collection of William Shakespeare's work. This book is timeless.

I don't pretend to understand the merits of the different editions, but this 2-volume Riverside version comes in a pretty slipcase. The introductory essays are insightful. And it's ALL of Shakespeare!

The first edition of this book was the textbook for a college course in Shakespeare. I read every play! The print was very small, however, and I got through some plays better by reading texts with a larger font. My favorite is "Much Ado About Nothing".
