Epic is a genre of literature that has been around for centuries. It typically tells the story of heroic deeds and adventures, often on a grand scale.

Epic poems are known for their length, complexity, and use of elevated language. They often feature gods and goddesses, as well as heroes and heroines who possess superhuman qualities.

One of the most famous epics is Homer's "Iliad" and "Odyssey," which tell the story of the Trojan War and the adventures of Odysseus on his journey home. These epics have had a profound influence on Western literature and continue to be studied and read today.

Epics can also be found in other cultures and traditions, such as the Indian "Mahabharata" and the Persian "Shahnameh." Each of these epics has its own unique style and themes, but they all share a common focus on heroism, adventure, and the human experience.

In conclusion, epic is a powerful and enduring genre of literature that has the ability to transport readers to other worlds and inspire them with tales of heroism and adventure.

I sobbed my eyes out while finishing this novel and this entire series. It's truly an emotional journey that has left a profound impact on me. I have fallen in love with this world, these characters, and this story to an extent that my heart physically aches for the ending of this tale and the fact that it's all over.

I will forever, and I truly mean forever, recommend this series to anyone and everyone I know. It is nothing short of perfect in every single way. The strong heroine is a force to be reckoned with, inspiring and empowering. The great foil adds depth and complexity to the story. The solid plot keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The strong male heroes who wholeheartedly support the female heroine are a refreshing change. There is no trace of toxic masculinity, which is a huge plus. And let's not forget the male characters that make you swoon over them.

This is hands down one of the best book series I have ever read or will ever read. It has set a new standard for excellence in literature and I will cherish it always.

4 stars - English Ebook

Alanna is, without a doubt, one of the most captivating female protagonists I have ever come across in my reading journey.

She shatters the barriers of convention on numerous fronts. Time and again, she battles against the accusations and expectations that are thrust upon her. Despite the odds stacked against her, she never gives up.

Finally, through her unwavering perseverance, she carves out a unique place for herself. She remains true to herself and her desires, regardless of what others may say or think.

Alanna not only inspires the other characters in the story but also the readers. She shows us that we can look beyond the illusions and limitations of physical and emotional boundaries.

All one needs to do is strive hard and not give up in order to bring about the changes they wish to see in the world.

This review will be looking at the whole series.

I have to admit that I am amazed that somehow during my adolescence of female-oriented fantasy reading, I never picked up the Alanna Quartet. The series is most definitely unique in the world of fantasy directed at girls. The sex is frank, and the main character has the unique attributes of red hair and violet eyes. However, at one point, she is described as short and stocky. She works to callous her hands and has chosen a path that will most definitely leave her with a great deal of physical scars at the end of her life. And this still seems utterly refreshing twenty years later.

Although there can be clunky bits throughout this series, I must applaud Tamora Pierce for giving young women and girls a heroine who, in the end, holds her own. I admit that at times I was yelling at Alanna's insecurities because this character was such a strong warrior. But in the end, Alanna is not a perfect character, and maybe that is why the character is better for it.

The series offers a different perspective on what a female protagonist can be like in a fantasy world. It doesn't shy away from showing the challenges and flaws that Alanna faces, making her a more relatable and realistic character. Overall, the Alanna Quartet is a great addition to the world of female-oriented fantasy.
