The Junie B Jones series never tire me! I love them, they keep me entertained! Junie B. Jones is a very rambunctious five year old. In this story her parents surprise her with the news of a new baby. Junie B. doesn't take the news well. She decides that she's going to be the boss of the baby because she's older and she should be in charge. Once the baby is born Junie B.'s grandmother makes the mistake of telling Junie B. that her new baby brother is the "cutest little monkey" which she takes literally. She was convinced that her new brother was a monkey, and she declared this at school during show and tell. Later at recess Junie's friends tried to bribe her with presents so they could be the first ones to see her monkey brother. Eventually this landed Junie in the principal's office where he called her grandmother and clarified that her brother is a real baby but he's just cute. I would totally recommend this book to other students or even my kids when I have my own so they can enjoy what I read as a child as well.

ta. author: Barbara Park
tb. genre: Series/Chapter Book
tc. publication date: 1993
td. annotation:
-Junie’s parents tell her that they are having a baby and at first she is upset about it. When the baby is born, Junie’s grandmother tells her that he is the cutest little monkey. Junie goes to school excited to have a monkey brother, but learns that that was an expression and he is just a normal baby. Junie still ends up happy about having a brother.

-The book uses language that the students reading the story would be able to relate to. The tone of the book reflects the voice of many elementary age students. It also models how Junie is coping getting a new baby brother.
te. discussion questions:
tt-What do you notice about Junie’s behavior?
-How would you have reacted if your parents told you that they were having a baby?
-Why does Junie think that her brother is a monkey?

Dnf. I could even read through the second chapter because Junie is a rotten kid with a foul mouth. Very disappointing.

I used to have almost every book in this series as a kid. I was completely obsessed with this series. I read it over and over and over and over... Probably a bit too much? I ended up donating all of my books to a local charity almost a decade ago, but I still wanted to pick these books up and do some reviews for them. Why not? Jumping back into my youth and staring nostalgia in the face sounded like a fun idea!

As an adult, I can see why kids love this book. Also, as an adult, I can see why this series can be hated by adults.

Junie B. Jones is a troublesome kid who has a big mouth and says rude things. We all know those kids, and Junie B. is one of them. Some of the comedy in this book is amusing - little monkey taken as a real monkey. Picking this book up and being able to smile and roll my eyes at some of the goofy things I realize kids absolutely don't know is fun! I enjoyed jumping back into it.

This book is for kids though. As an adult, it's not my thing! I wouldn't pick this book up for fun. I pick this book up to look back at my youth and see where I'm at now. I can see why I liked it - it's funny, it's brash, we all feel like Junie B. sometimes when we get in trouble for just doing our honest best. We think we're saying the right things and don't realize that we weren't right the whole time as a kid. I can relate.

I do suggest not taking your time with this book. There are some good lessons to come out of them, but you don't want to leave off at a chapter where Junie B. Jones is telling everyone they are dumb bunnies or fat. Junie B. is very aggressive and rude to her friends in this book, so you also might want to give a lesson about bullying! If you can get past that... you're gold!

Overall, this is a great series for young readers. It's goofy, fun and silly!

Three out of five stars.

My favorite thing to do when I am at their house is to go to Six Flags it’s the best thing ever but when it’s in October I’m kind of scared of the witch in the window and I go and talk with Cairns and I get Carrie by my papa so I won’t be scared and I try to not look at it and I’m never ever ever had nightmares about the witch but it’s kind of scary but now it’s not because I haven’t been to Six Flags in a long time and I’m going to go there and Christmas next year I guess because every year we go but not this year because it’s during the coronavirus

I like when my Nana or Papa babysit me because they give me waffles or oatmeal but the more times I get oatmeal because I always ask for it and that’s the best times when I get some thing that I really want from my Nana and Papa. Now my Nana and Papa are in Virginia in there is more affection but my name my name Ana just got surgery and I’m on her kidney and I’m really sad for her because it is the worst thing I ever heard but she’s at home now and now she doesn’t have any pain but only a little bit of pain because that’s normal only a little tiny bit of pain and I want him Layla her cat died and is actually my mom‘s cat and she’s a little bit allergic to cats and so she said we can get a dog but that is really good Guo. Dad says we can get a dog because she doesn’t wanna she doesn’t want to take care of the dog because he wants us to take care of it and I said I will take care of it but he thinks were lying because we don’t even take care of our toys and that is not even a pat isn’t that silly yeah it is totally silly and I love with my Nana and Papa Baby but now I can’t because like when you go to Virginia do you it’s like so expensive to go on the flight and you can’t go right now because his door in the corner get it it’s Dorene Bugarin Rios so we are just going to stay home and do some fun stuff that Coate side because it’s during the fires and it says there’s a heat warning every single day because it’s like 100° every single day start with 75 I believe and then goes up to 100 why well sometimes but nobody wants to go outside and less if they’re going in the pool so that is good but not really good what is the Paul’s hearts yeah I have a next-door neighbor that her name is Kennedy and she has a pool I hope she’s not going outside because it’s a heat warning so I hope hope hope I was just calling to buyers will be over soon because I want to go out and do some stuff mom just went to Lake shore in the car she was wearing a mask you should all wear a mask doesn’t matter if you have to go to work but you just have to because that is the rule I know Donald Trump is not doing that because Welch is wearing a mask now but in the past three months he wasn’t wearing masks because he was the president I hope Joe Biden is the president because then he’ll make everybody wear a mask doesn’t matter never you go out you have to wear a mask so that’s good but Trump is the president I hope Jonnel Punsalan wins but we’re kind of worried if he doesn’t remember anything because he doesn’t really remember we are still voting for Zhou by then that is our choice my mom voted for somebody else that went to Virginia beach because her parents were in Virginia and like remember when I told you about that so that is really good but Virginia is getting more FX than any place like if you ever seen this picture my mom and dad were talking about it and I was being nosy like these two kids were on each other and he took a picture of this was in Georgia and they got like kicked out

Reading these with my daughter. Awhile back I'd seen parents complain about the Junie B. books because they found Junie to be insufferable. And I have to agree. Junie B. is a brat. And no, I've worked with kids, there is not a note of authenticity in how Junie B. is portrayed. If my daughter was not set on reading this series I would not bother.

That said, my daughter finds it hilarious. I have heard parents complain that their kids have started acting like Junie B. but fortunately that has not been an issue for us. At one point my daughter asked if I thought Junie B. was a troublemaker and I said I thought she was a brat and my daughter laughed and laughed and it turned into a nice bonding moment. And I think for her that's the draw, seeing Junie act out and get in trouble and finding it funny. Perhaps I would have found it funny myself if I was still her age. And even at my age, there is a part of me that wants to keep reading to see what Junie will do next in the manner of watching a slow train wreck unfold.

Finally, these are quick, easy reads. My daughter is severely dyslexic and these are good for us to take turns and she is motivated to read them. And any book that encourages a dyslexic child has some redeeming value. But I definitely think kids will enjoy these books more than their parents.

Junie B Jones is going to have a little baby brother, but she's not all that happy about it. Eventually, her mother goes into labor and has him, so Junie must stay home with her grandfather. When her grandmother comes home and tells Junie that her baby brother is a cute little monkey, Junie misunderstands and thinks that she really has a monkey for a brother. She tells her class during show and tell and gets her friends all excited. They begin to fight over who will get to see her brother first, so Junie comes up with the idea that they must give her things if they want to see her monkey brother. In the end, Mrs finds out and takes Junie to the Principal's office. There the misunderstanding is found out.
I enjoyed the humor of this book. It was funny Junie's first idea for a name happens a last name and not the name you would give a child. Honestly, I get why some patents are hesitant with the language of these books, but I find it kinda cool that the author makes it feel as though a kindergartener is talking to you. Of course, I could do with a little less of the words stupid, dumb, and hate. I also really enjoy the pictures, they really liven up the pages and give you a visual image of what's going on in the book.
I could use this book to teach my students about misunderstandings and how misunderstandings create false beliefs. I could ask the students what they thought Junie had misunderstood as we read and ask them how she might have avoided the situation. I could ask them how they would react if they knew they had a misunderstanding and remind them how they should react. I could also use this book to help struggling readers learn to read.

The classic Junie B. Jones is in for a big surprise when her parents tell her they are going to have a baby. When her parents leave for the hospital to have the baby, Junie B. goes to have a sleepover at her grandparents’ house. The next morning, her grandmother calls her little brother the cutest “little monkey” and Junie B. believes that her little brother really is a baby monkey. She knows he will look different from her, smells different from her, and acts different from her so Junie B. begins telling all her friends at school that her baby brother really is a monkey. Other students in her class begin offering her presents, hoping that whoever gives Junie B. the best gift will be the first to see her baby monkey brother. Eventually the teacher catches wind of the story and Junie B. is sent to the principal’s office where they call her grandmother to clear things up. In the end, Junie B. gets to meet her newborn brother and is enthralled. This book once again encompasses the curiosity of young children and how gullible they can be. As usual, in this book Junie B. Jones provides many great opportunities to discuss what behavior is kind and acceptable and which is not- something I would love to share with young students in my classroom.

I read this book as part of an assignment for my Washington State University Teaching & Learning 307 class. In this book Junie B. Jones is informed that her parents are expecting a baby, she will soon be an older sister! When Junie B. is told she is not very excited, that is until Grandma Miller shares with her that he is the “cutest little monkey”. Junie B. is thrilled to hear that her baby brother is a monkey, after all, she loves monkeys! After informing all her class that she has a monkey as baby brother, her classmates start a commotion doubting that this is true. This leads to Junie B. ending up in the Principal’s office where Grandma Miller is called down to clarify the situation. Her grandma explain that this is just a form of expression which then leads to the classroom discussion about different expressions where they share expressions like couch potato and eats like a pig. When Junie B. comes home to meet her new baby brother, she discovers that although he is not a monkey, she still loves him. This book would serve great as a teaching lesson to children who are expecting new siblings. This could even serve as a lesson on expressions.

Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business is the second book in the Junie B. Jones series, and it's all about when Junie B. gets a little baby brother. But here's the funny part: she thinks he's a monkey! Can you believe that?

So, Junie B. goes and tells her friends, Lucille and Grace, that she has a monkey baby brother. They decide to have a race to see who can give the best presents to the baby. It's like a contest, and whoever wins gets to see the baby first. But guess what? Junie B.'s mom finds out about this and takes away all the gifts! Oops, Junie B. didn't see that coming.

My favorite part of the book is when Junie B.'s mom takes away the presents. It's just so funny how Junie B. thought she could keep it a secret. But grown-ups are smart, you know! And then there's this really, really funny part where the principal explains some confusing sayings that adults use, like 'lucky duck' and 'couch potato.' It made me laugh so hard because I never thought about those sayings that way before.

What I learned from this book is that sometimes we can get confused by the things adults say. And even though Junie B. can be a bit of a troublemaker, she's really just trying to figure things out, like all of us.

If you want a book that makes you giggle and shows you how kids think in funny ways, you should totally read Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business. I loved it and I think you will too!
