Mr. Buffett who is now worth more than $100Billion is a Genius in investing. Truly his virtuoso level knowledge regarding businesses, investments, Macro trends, management, competition, promoters, shareholder relationships etc is impeccable. is This book describes all about his life & how he transformed from a newspaper boy to a Media & newspaper Baron holding a stake in Washington Post. I feel that a thin line separates Mr. Buffett & all other investors, portfolio managers. That is the vital ability of him to hold on right businesses till he makes money, not only money but a ton of it. Whereas other managers hold throw away underperforming stocks on weekly, monthly basis. Mr Buffett still holds his most favourite GEICO which he had bought when it was in serious problem & bought it next to nothing. He is far more than just a asset manager/ liquidator but a man who would acquire businesses & truly focus on the long term business value of the company.
Must read for anyone interested in Businesses, SERIOUS Long term investing, Investment banking etc.
America definitely got its Capitalist & lets see who will be India's Capitalist?

Very long (my record for audiobook) and exciting book.
It took 3,5 years for author to write it and the result is remarkable. The book covers Warren's life from early childhood till 1996 with great details and quotes from Warren's letters to shareholders and newspapers of the time. A huge part of story is dedicated into immersion into the historic events context.
Personally, I enjoyed Warren VS Wall St. and conventional investment practices clash which lasted for quite a while.

A really remarkable biography considering the author had very limited access to the subject. "Buffett" gives you insight into the Oracle of Omaha his values his philosophy, his approach. But don't expect a lot of actionable investment advice. One thing that becomes clear in Lowenstein's book is that Buffett is a savant, keeping balance sheets in his head and not really revealing his analysis even to his closest confidants.

A great read, but not a "how-to" if that's what you're expecting.

THis is one of the best reads of Year 2021 for me.. Excellent pace with so many insights into the investing style of Buffett. he has developed a model which might not be replicable as well but really long story compressed into a book that keeps you go on and on.. Its a must read for people who like to explore investing from a long term perspective as there are short cuts or tricks to make quick money.. Its a read that doesnt require to understand lot of finance jargons as well and therefore lot of Business men should be able to relate to this book and narrative of Buffett life.. Simple excellent and worth putting your time in this master gem...

Great biography. Far better than “The Snowball.” I find Buffett to be an admirable guy. He is and always has been dedicated to his craft - the process of investing and finding value - over the end result (he doesn’t spend any of his money and is giving it all to charity, not his kids). His relentless focus is hard to comprehend, but is something I want to embody some day (perhaps at a different goal).

I recommend reading to anyone interested in investing, American capitalism, or business in the second half of the 20th century (you’ll meet Kay Graham, Munger, Ben Graham, Bill Ruane, Dan Burke, Tom Murphy, Marty Lipton, Wasserstein, Joe Flom, Michael Lewis, The Kiewit Brothers, Roberto Goizueta, Bill Gates, John Gutfreund, and Jack Byrne, among others, along the way).

This is a solid, intelligent, if not slightly repetitive biography of Warren Buffett. I appreciate how much the author understood the nuances of business and trading, and how easy it was to follow along with his storytelling. Buffett is an engaging protagonist, and I learned a lot by peeking into his world and how he operates. A lot of his ideas are easily applicable - it’s just a matter of how dedicated one is in following his blueprint.
tWhile I enjoyed this book, it definitely started to drag towards the second half. Buffett was a solid, consistent figure, so he typically got involved in the same situation over and over again. It can get a little repetitive. Still, this was a great resource for my financial literacy, and I’m hoping to implement a lot of Buffett’s ideas in the future.

A very fascinating subject in Warren Buffett. Also, a very easy read. Lowenstein writes in a flowing manner that kept me engaged.

I do get the sense that Lowenstein is very much a Buffett fan, and seems to clearly separate himself as the author from Buffett’s critics. Someday I’d like to read another book on Buffett by an author who is perhaps less partial to Buffett. It could cast many of this book’s anecdotes in a different light.

Warren Buffett might be the most enigmatic man of our time. While everyone knows that his past half century of investing has made him into the richest man in the world, nobody seems to know much about him beyond this. The few anecdotes we sometimes hear- he still lives in the same modest house in Omaha, he doesn't drink anything stronger than coca-cola, he drives himself around in a very basic Lincoln- only pique our curiosity more.

Roger Lowenstein is well known for writing extremely engaging and thoroughly understandable books about business subjects (such as When Genius Failed). This book is no different. He really does a great job of shedding some light on one of the most interesting men in american history- I was fascinated from cover to cover.

The book was published in 1995, and with Warren still going strong today, there is obviously a 14 year gap that needs to be filled in. Mr. Lowenstein- how about a sequel???

Add one star to my rating if you generally enjoy business books and subtract one if you don't.
