This book is truly the ultimate shoujo manga.

It presents the classic setup that is so familiar in a classic Korean drama, complete with all the right twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

Now, does it stretch a bit long? Well, that's a valid observation. It does have its moments where the story seems to linger a little longer than necessary.

However, despite this, I found myself enjoying every single second of it. The characters are so well-developed and the plot is so engaging that I couldn't help but be drawn in.

It's one of those rare manga that manages to capture the essence of a Korean drama and bring it to life in a whole new way.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of shoujo manga or Korean dramas. It's a must-read that will leave you feeling satisfied and wanting more.

This is not for the faint of heart.

It is not a romance. I repeat, this is not a romance.

To be honest, I really wouldn't recommend it at all. However, I will continue with the series.

There are far better manga for you to go read.

Seriously, there is a vast world of manga out there waiting to be discovered.

This particular one, however, is a disappointment.

It has an absurd and illogical story line that makes no sense and is difficult to follow.

The characters are equally absurd and irritating, lacking any depth or likability.

You would be doing yourself a favor by skipping this one and finding a manga that is more engaging, well-written, and enjoyable.

Don't waste your time on something that is clearly not worth it.

Go out and explore the many other options available to you and find a manga that will truly capture your imagination.

This was a truly nostalgic read for me.

I vividly remember reading some of it from my local library in the early 2000’s.

It was a captivating story that held my attention from the very beginning.

However, for some reason, I never did manage to finish it.

Despite that, I have seen the Japanese live action adaptation, which also had its own charm.

But my absolute favorite scene from the original work was after our main character finally gets back at the bullies and starts to fight back.

There is a panel where Tsukushi, with her middle finger extended, says “Oh sorry! You boiled the soup, boys. Now slurp it!”

This moment was so empowering and satisfying, showing that Tsukushi was not one to be pushed around anymore.

It made me cheer for her and root for her to continue standing up for herself.

Overall, this story has left a lasting impression on me, and I will always remember that powerful scene.

I’m currently reading “Boys over Flowers”. The mainstream genre of this manga is Shoujo, and its theme is a romantic comedy.

The protagonist of this manga is Tsukushi Makino, who attends the Eitoku academy. In that high school, there are many wealthy people, but Tsukushi is rather poor. Her mother recommended that she go there because she hopes Tsukushi will marry a rich man.

There are four extremely rich boys in the school. They are called “F4” by other students, which means “Flower 4” as they claim to be as beautiful as flowers. One of the F4 is Tsukasa Dōmyoji. He is a very selfish and silly person. When Tsukushi first met Dōmyoji, the scene can be described as “Taming of the beast”. He is really mean to Tsukushi at first, but he will grow and change step by step. I hope he will eventually become a mentor for Tsukushi.

The emotional ups and downs of the characters are erratic. In particular, Tsukushi is very humane, which can perhaps explain some types of speed lines used in the manga. Also, the use of perspective in this manga is really important as it can show the character’s situation and what is happening to them. Domyoji is a very selfish person who always looks down on others, so the warm eye view was also used quite often. Additionally, the splash page appears many times. Since Dōmyoji is always angry, maybe the author wanted to show his emotions more vividly. I think sometimes the spread page also appears, which is similar to the splash page. Tsukushi’s hero’s journey is really exciting, and I’m really enjoying reading this manga.

I vividly remember having a certain fondness for this volume in the past. However, upon rereading it as an adult, I find myself experiencing a great deal of discomfort.

Truly, I have an intense aversion to the concept of a romance between the protagonist and a bully who dispatched rapists after her. The manner in which she so rapidly gets over this traumatic event is simply unacceptable. I am certain that it can be attributed to the mangaka's inexperience in storytelling during that era. Nevertheless, this aspect could have been handled in a far more proficient manner.

Aside from that, it is a relatively decent 90s shojo manga. I can understand why it has amassed a total of 37 volumes. The story likely contains elements that appealed to a wide range of readers during that time period, perhaps with engaging characters and a captivating overall plot. Despite the flaw I mentioned earlier, it still holds some value and charm within the context of the shojo genre.

It's truly strange how this is presented as a love story and is meant to be a comedy, yet the bullying within it is extremely intense and there are implied anti-abortion and sex-shaming beliefs.

I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Despite all that, I still managed to find it funny, and Tsukushi remains one of my all-time favorite female characters.

I haven't delved into the world of manga for almost a decade, but this particular one brought back memories of why I liked it in the first place.

However, I'm left confused as to why the story took a different turn towards the end. It seems to deviate from the initial premise and develop in a way that I wasn't quite expecting.

Maybe there are deeper layers and meanings that I'm not fully grasping, but for now, I'm just left with this sense of confusion and a bit of nostalgia for the manga-reading days of my past.

The conclusion of this volume was extremely brutal. It delved deeply into the theme of bullying, and I also suspected that there were elements of difficult home lives as well. However, there were sporadic moments of humor interspersed throughout.

There were a couple of scenes that had a somewhat rapey undertone, but they were not carried out to the full extent.

Edit: I have reread it.

This volume seemed to paint a rather complex picture, with the harsh reality of bullying and potentially troubled home environments juxtaposed against the unexpected flashes of humor. The presence of the rapey scenes, even if not fully developed, added an additional layer of discomfort and tension to the narrative. Rereading it perhaps allowed for a more in-depth analysis and a better understanding of the various themes and elements at play.

Overall, it was a volume that left a lasting impression, both for its disturbing content and its attempts to lighten the mood with humor.

I only picked up this manga series because I am a huge fan of the k-drama that is based on it. However, to my disappointment, this manga was just bad.

Everything seems to work so much better in the TV show, which is truly a shame. I really did not like this manga at all, mainly due to the over-the-top and petty drama that it portrays.

I don't understand why the same elements that work so well in the TV show fail to have the same impact here. It's a mystery to me.

Perhaps it's the difference in the medium or the way the story is presented. In the TV show, the characters and their emotions come to life through the acting and the cinematography. But in the manga, it just feels flat and unappealing.

Overall, I would not recommend this manga to anyone, especially if they are fans of the TV show. It's just not worth the read.
