A nice collection of short stories has caught my attention. I had initially expected a touch of Lovecraftian horror, but what I got was something more along the lines of Goosebumps.

However, this didn't disappoint me in the least. In fact, the last three stories in the collection were truly outstanding. "The Village of Sirens" had a certain Lovecraftian flavor to it, which was a pleasant surprise. It managed to create an atmosphere of mystery and dread that kept me on the edge of my seat.

"The Bully" was a bit childish in its premise, but it was also great fun to read. It had a simple yet engaging plot that made me root for the protagonist.

"A Deserter in the House" was not scary at all, but I really liked the twist at the end. It took the story in an unexpected direction and made me think about the characters and their motives in a whole new way. Overall, this collection of short stories was a great read and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good scare or a thought-provoking story.

It's definitely a series that will stay with you long after you've finished watching or reading it.

This is an article about an interesting and creepy comic that I have just read. It is truly the first of its kind that I have come across.

The stories within the comic are not only interesting but also have a certain creepiness to them that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I am completely hooked and can't wait to read more.

What really stands out about this comic is the illustrations. They are absolutely fantastic and add to the overall atmosphere of the stories. The details in the illustrations are so well done that they can be quite scary at times.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend this comic to anyone who enjoys a good dose of the creepy and the interesting. It is definitely a must-read for comic lovers.

After 700 pages of Tomie cutting up her boyfriends' parts, this third volume in Ito's Terror series (sadly, the last as well) offers a kind of refreshing change. It focuses on stories where gore and shock aren't the main focus. Most of these stories date back to the late 80's to 1990.

"Den of the Sleep Demon" and "The Long Hair in the Attic" are included as expected. They are typical tales of a character's myopia leading to their downfall. The freaky stories with blood and flesh. "Den" is especially gruesome and a prime example of the Louvre of Lust that Ito refers to as his mind,展示ing a transformation that would make Kafka cringe.

There is also high fantasy in "Sword of the Reanimator" and "The Village of Sirens". The former is a vessel for shonen lovers (perhaps the weakest story here), while "Sirens" builds up well but has a typical climax. Still, it's not bad for a monthly Halloween thrill.

Most interesting are the stories where psychological terror is intense, palpable, and throbbing. Only the denouement gives in to typical Ito gross-outs (hey, it's what you wanted), if at all. "Heart of a Father", as well as the final two stories, "The Bully", and "A Deserter in the House" are the best in this collection. "Heart" and "Bully" both deal with jealousy in its cruelest form (the author seems to know a lot about that, huh?), and showcase Ito's ability to unnerve without venturing into ero-guro territory. "Deserter" is the clear winner of the collection, a story about deceit and rage, with an ending that reframes everything that came before and even offers a critique against revenge and anger as a whole.

An afterword from a filmmaker points out that Ito is all about familial love and hatred. With all the love and hate in this volume, it's hard not to feel a part of Ito's crazy, mind-bending family. 3.5 stars.

I kinda expected it but when it happened it also disturbed me.

I had a certain anticipation that something might occur, yet when it actually did take place, it still managed to disrupt my peace of mind.

The anticipation I had was perhaps a subconscious preparation for the eventuality. However, the reality of it happening brought with it a sense of unease that I hadn't fully accounted for.

It's as if the knowledge of its possibility wasn't enough to shield me from the impact it had when it became a reality.

This experience has made me realize that sometimes, even when we think we are prepared for something, the actual occurrence can still have a profound effect on us.

It serves as a reminder that we should always be ready to face the unexpected, no matter how much we think we have anticipated it.

Someone, and I think it was Jesse Bullington (Jesse Bullington), suggested to me a long time ago that I should check out Junji Ito. However, I just now got around to it.

It's really sad that I put it off for so long because this collection, at least, was truly remarkable. I will definitely be on the hunt for the others.

The stories in this collection are a combination of fairly typical horror elements, fairly typical J-horror elements, and some really weird stuff. But all of it has a very unique feel, and it's all executed extremely skillfully. It manages to conjure up some seriously disturbing images, scenes, and transitions, while still being a great deal of fun to read.

At this point, I'm officially a fan of Ito. Some of my favorite stories included a whole bunch of them. \\"Bio-House,\\" \\"Den of the Sleep Demon,\\" \\"The Long Hair in the Attic,\\" and \\"Unbearable Maze\\" all come to mind immediately. I can't wait to explore more of Ito's work.

WHAT THE FREAK

This expression is often used to convey shock, surprise, or disbelief. It can be quite a strong and emotional reaction. When something unexpected or strange occurs, people might exclaim "What the freak!" to show their astonishment.

For example, if you see a person walking down the street with a completely outlandish outfit, or witness a bizarre event that defies explanation, you might instinctively utter this phrase. It's a way to express your immediate reaction and let others know that you are taken aback by what you have just witnessed.

However, it's important to note that this expression can be considered a bit vulgar or inappropriate in some situations. It's always a good idea to be mindful of your language and the context in which you are using it. In more formal or polite settings, it would be better to use a more appropriate and refined way to express your surprise or shock.
