Anyone who is familiar with the author George R.R. Martin due to his renowned masterpiece "A Song of Ice and Fire" would find it difficult to envision him as a children's book writer. This is either because of the cruelty and sadism exhibited by some of his characters or the strong sexual allure present within its pages, which is even more emphasized in its TV adaptation.
However, there is a tale by him that is a small masterpiece. It is a kind of miniature bildungsroman crafted by one of the contemporary masters of the fantasy genre. One can easily sense his distinct style. The description of the ice dragon perhaps gives a hint of something to the readers of "A Song of Ice and Fire".
Although it is very short, it is absolutely recommended as a light introduction to Martin's vast and spacious world. It offers a different perspective on his writing and allows readers to dip their toes into his creative universe without being overwhelmed by the complexity and darkness of his more famous works.
