For the sake of my sanity, I simply couldn't bring myself to finish it.

I have no idea who gave this man the impression that he could write. Every single chapter is so choppy that it's almost unbearable. What's more, they pretty much repeat the same thing as the previous one and make absolutely no sense at all.

I just don't have the patience or the ability to endure this any longer. My husband, who is a proud graduate of Purdue's Aeronautics/Astronautics school, is more than capable of providing me with all the information I need.

Mr. Longuski, I诚恳地建议 you to stick to the writings that are required of you as a professor. At least no one reads those, and it might just help keep the suicide rate down.

Seriously, his writing is that bad. I hope he realizes it and stops inflicting this torture on others.

Maybe he should focus on his teaching and research instead of trying to be a writer.

Rocket scientists possess a unique way of thinking that can be broken down into seven essential secrets, presented here as active verbs: “Dream,” “Judge,” “Ask,” “Check,” “Simplify,” “Optimize,” and “Do.”

Dream big and envision possibilities that may seem beyond reach. This allows for the exploration of new frontiers and the generation of innovative ideas.

Judge objectively, carefully evaluating the pros and cons of different options. This helps in making informed decisions and avoiding hasty or ill-advised choices.

Ask questions without hesitation. As the saying goes, “The only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.” Inquisitiveness leads to a deeper understanding of the problem at hand and uncovers hidden details.

Check everything meticulously. Attention to detail is crucial in rocket science to ensure the safety and success of the mission. This includes double-checking calculations, testing components, and verifying data.

Simplify complex problems by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable parts. This makes it easier to analyze and solve each component, ultimately leading to a more comprehensive solution.

Optimize processes and systems to achieve maximum efficiency and performance. This involves continuous improvement and the pursuit of excellence in every aspect of the work.

Finally, do not just think about it, but take action. Execution is key in turning ideas into reality and achieving the desired goals.

Quick read.

It was not very deep, but it had some good general advice.

This short piece provided a concise overview of a particular topic. Although it didn't delve into great detail, it managed to offer some valuable suggestions that could be useful in a variety of situations.

The author presented the information in a straightforward manner, making it easy to understand and apply.

Even though it lacked the depth of a more comprehensive analysis, the good general advice it contained was still worth considering.

Whether you're looking for a quick refresher or some practical tips, this quick read had something to offer.

It served as a reminder that sometimes, simple and straightforward advice can be just as effective as more complex and detailed explanations.

Overall, it was a useful and informative piece that left the reader with some food for thought.

But lots of these are bs. I can even tell. It's quite obvious that many of the things being said or presented lack authenticity and credibility. There seems to be a lot of false information or exaggeration going on. It's frustrating because it makes it difficult to distinguish what is real and what is not. In this age of abundant information, it's crucial to be able to critically evaluate and filter out the bs. We need to be more discerning and not simply accept everything at face value. By doing so, we can avoid being misled and make more informed decisions. We should also encourage others to be more honest and transparent in their communication. Only then can we hope to have a more reliable and trustworthy source of information.

A quick read through this work left me with a favorable impression.

The author's choice of presenting the content in the short 'pearls of wisdom' format was quite engaging. It allowed for easy digestion of the ideas and made the reading experience enjoyable.

What really intrigued me, however, was his recent criticisms of NASA. It was refreshing to see a different perspective on an organization that is often held in high regard.

Overall, it was a good read. It definitely whetted my appetite for exploring the author's bibliography further. I look forward to delving into more of his works and seeing what other insights and perspectives he has to offer.

This is an outstanding book that delves into practical innovation and the art of actually getting things accomplished.

While it takes the "Rocket Scientist" as its model, which is understandable given that Longuski is one, it manages to mostly avoid the pitfalls of being elitist and sycophantic.

Instead, it offers an honest and thoughtful analysis of how rocket scientists operate, presented almost in the style of a pattern language for knowledge workers.

I penned a reflection on this book titled "Code like a Rocket Scientist" and you can find it at http://tardate.blogspot.com/2008/09/c....

This book provides valuable insights and practical wisdom that can be applied not only in the field of rocket science but also in various other domains where innovation and getting things done are crucial.

It offers a unique perspective on how to approach problems, think creatively, and work effectively to achieve desired outcomes.

Whether you are a knowledge worker, an entrepreneur, or simply someone interested in learning about innovation and productivity, this book is definitely worth a read.

It has the potential to inspire and transform the way you think and work, helping you to reach new heights in your own endeavors.

You feel an intense sense of happiness by simply reading through the pages.

It transports you into the warm and cozy room of a charming Denmark house.

There, you can envision a crackling fireplace, its warm glow casting a soft light on the walls.

The gentle flicker of the flames seems to dance, creating a relaxing and inviting atmosphere.

Nearby, a scented candle is burning, filling the room with a pleasant and soothing aroma.

The combination of the fireplace and the scented candle makes the room feel like a haven, a place where you can unwind and escape from the stresses of the outside world.

As you continue to read, you are completely immersed in this idyllic scene, and your heart is filled with a sense of contentment and joy.

Okay, here are a couple of caveats. This guy REALLY REALLY doesn't like the shuttle program. He has a great love for NSA, JPL, Spirit, Opportunity (it was too early for Curiosity), Voyager and such. He simply believes that the shuttle is the wrong solution for a problem that wasn't properly identified. And he does make some valid points. However, if the shuttle is your area of expertise or interest, don't even bother reading him. He will infuriate you to such an extent that you won't be able to appreciate the good stuff.

And there is indeed good stuff. Not the least of which are all the delicious and wonderful books he will recommend to you in his accounts.

If you're in need of a book to explain why rocket science, nay, science in general, is important, this is a great starter book. It contains a lot of information on why math isn't difficult, why it is sometimes made harder, and why it is crucial in the world (and yes, not just for making change). It also explores why language and words are important - why even TLAs (three-letter acronyms) have their place. But it also shows how the language of math allows you to solve problems by leveraging the talents of many other people.

If you're looking for a book to break down the mystic and mythical Scientific Method into its steps, process, thinking, dreaming, building, etc., this is the book for you. He doesn't use those exact words, but he takes the reader through what it takes to dream, evaluate, simplify and DO. Just DO.

All of this is mixed with a healthy dose of "What would Spock do?", "do we need Kirk on a Mission to Mars?", "there is no try", and of course, "klaatu barada nikto".

Give this book to your middle school kids to let them see that Rocket Scientists have fun and do good, and that they could potentially become one. Give it to your bosses to explain why simplify is good and why tools need to be continuously enhanced. Give it to your father to finally explain why you find some B-movies and bad scripts so hysterical, and yet can be so serious about things like your job and rockets (or telephones, in my case) and STEM funding and space exploration.

The book is neatly divided into several sections, namely: dream, judge, ask, check, simplify, optimize, and do.

Within each section, there are numerous chapters that further expound on the concept for the reader. These chapters are filled with real-world examples, making it extremely easy for the reader to relate and also to examine the writer's analysis of the situation, which appears to be without fault.

The writing style employed by the author is lucid and clear, ensuring that the content is easily understandable. As the writer suggests, the book is particularly targeted at the armchair thinker.

However, it should be noted that a difference of opinion may arise. This is because the writer is a proponent of the rocket program and not of the shuttle program. This difference in stance may potentially lead to a point where the reader may completely reject the book.

Nevertheless, despite this possible drawback, the book still offers valuable insights and concepts that are worth considering. It provides a unique perspective on various topics and can serve as a thought-provoking read for those interested in delving deeper into the subject matter.
