I used to tune in to Stuart McLean's Vinyl Cafe on the radio for numerous years. His storytelling was truly captivating, and I found great pleasure in listening to his shows. This is the second book of his that I have delved into. Just like most short story collections I've read, there were some stories that I absolutely adored, a few that I liked, and others that didn't quite resonate with me as much.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the stories that centered around Morley and Dave, who are his favorite characters. However, the story titled "Make Money, Get Prizes" was an exception for me. These characters felt so relatable that they could be anyone we know in our daily lives. The stories featuring them were filled with humor, had touching moments, and were overall heart-warming.
Among the other stories, I had a great time reading "The Pig", "Jock Strap", "Skunks", "Sports Injuries", and "Shirts". Each of these stories had its own unique charm and managed to engage me in different ways. Some made me laugh out loud, while others tugged at my heartstrings.
Lovely book of short stories. It's truly a delight to read. As I go through each page, I can vividly hear the voice of Stuart McLean. His unique style and engaging storytelling come alive in these stories. It's an easy read, which makes it perfect for those moments when you just want to unwind and enjoy some light-hearted entertainment. There are lots of laughs to be had along the way. The characters are well-developed and the plots are both interesting and humorous. It's a book that you can pick up and put down easily, yet it will always draw you back in with its charm. Whether you're a fan of short stories or just looking for a good read, this book is definitely worth checking out.
