This statement seems to be comparing something to Lymond. It implies that the subject in question is not as captivating or engaging as Lymond. However, it does concede that it is still good.

Perhaps the author has a high standard set by Lymond, and while the other thing may not reach that level, it still has its own merits. It could be that Lymond has certain qualities or characteristics that make him stand out and be more compelling.

On the other hand, the thing being compared might have its own unique features that make it good in its own way. It could be that it lacks the pizzazz or excitement that Lymond brings, but it still offers something of value.

Overall, the statement leaves room for interpretation and makes one wonder more about both Lymond and the thing being compared. It also shows that even though something may not be as great as another, it can still be worthy of recognition and appreciation.

I think this was one of the better books in the series.

It was fast paced, which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the reading.

Moreover, since it involved an area of history that I knew nothing about, it piqued my curiosity and made me really pay attention.

I was constantly engaged, eager to learn more about that particular historical period and how it intertwined with the story.

The character Primaflora is truly intriguing.

Her presence adds depth and complexity to the plot.

She is not only a well-developed character but also plays a crucial role in推动 the story forward.

Her actions and decisions have a significant impact on the outcome, making her an essential part of the narrative.

Overall, this book offers a captivating reading experience with its fast pace, interesting historical backdrop, and engaging characters.

It is definitely a must-read for fans of the series and those interested in historical fiction.

Each page is filled with excitement and anticipation, making it impossible to put the book down.

The Niccolo series has truly become a favorite of mine, and I can't wait to see what the author has in store for us next.

A truly intricate novel that delves into the fictional world of Niccolo van der Pulle while also exploring the not-so-fictional history of Cyprus during the reign of the last Lusignan king. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the sieges of St. Hilarion and Famagusta, with a house and sugar factory at Kouklia and Episcopi adding to the rich tapestry. And, not to forget, there is a brief but significant presence of a large number of cats. This novel is a treat for those who have a penchant for complex narratives that are filled with astonishing details. It is bound to keep you engaged from start to finish and will not disappoint even the most discerning of readers.

Great fun as usual

Today was another day filled with great fun. I woke up with a smile on my face, ready to embrace the new day. I went for a walk in the park and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The flowers were blooming, and the birds were singing. It was a wonderful sight and sound that made my heart feel full of joy.

After that, I met up with my friends and we went to a movie. The movie was really exciting and we all had a great time laughing and cheering. After the movie, we went for dinner at a nice restaurant. We ordered our favorite dishes and talked and laughed throughout the meal.

As the night fell, we said goodbye to each other and went home. But the great fun of the day still lingered in my mind. I know that life is full of ups and downs, but as long as we have great fun like this, we can always find the strength to keep going.

Hard to rate any DD novel on Goodreads.

Here, 4 stars is about 10 for everyone else! So, I just rate them as compared to the others she's written.

Most times, I find myself flipping back through the pages [try and] catch up with all the intricate plot lines, the diverse characters, and the unexpected twists. This time, however, I only flipped back to re-read all the glorious passages. The well scene, the moth scene, the truce scene, the bedside scene, etc., etc. These scenes flooded my senses, both for the better and for the worse.

I also felt that the reader was let in to Nicholas' thoughts more often in this book, compared to the first two. Some of his decisions were truly heartbreaking, but the honesty and insight they provided were refreshing. As I reached the end, I felt like I had a better understanding of his complex character.

I need to decompress for a few moments and then I'll start on the next in this series. I've already read the LC series, but I'm thinking I'll be re-reading it soon. It's just that good!

I am initially drawn to Dorothy's writing due to the captivating historic epic adventures that she skillfully weaves within the pages. However, it is the complex and utterly compelling relationships between her characters that truly make me stay.

Among these relationships, the one between Katelina and Noccolo stands out. Their story is a tragic yet enchanting journey that takes them from being lovers, to bitter enemies, and finally back to lovers once more.

Their tumultuous path is filled with heartbreak, passion, and a depth of emotion that is beautifully portrayed. Dorothy's ability to bring these characters to life and make us feel their pain and joy is truly remarkable.

We are drawn into their world, experiencing every twist and turn of their relationship along with them. It is a story that will stay with you long after you have finished reading, a testament to Dorothy's talent as a writer.

There are certain aspects of this series that truly bother me a great deal.

For instance, Dunnett has a rather disturbing penchant for killing off female characters. It seems as if she does this solely to provide the male characters with something to angst about.

This particular writing choice really grates on my nerves and makes me question some of her narrative decisions. However, despite these annoyances, it's not going to prevent me from reading every single thing she has ever written.

Her stories have a certain allure and charm that keeps me coming back for more, even when I'm frustrated with some of the specific plot elements. I'm still eager to explore the worlds she has created and see where her imagination takes her in future works.

So, while I may have my gripes, my love for her writing ultimately prevails.

Dorothy Dunnett has truly and bitterly disappointed me when it comes to Niccolo.

If it weren't for all the recycled character types and plot points from the Lymond Chronicles, I almost wouldn't believe that these books have the same author.

I really, really wanted to give Niccolo a fair chance because I absolutely adored Lymond. However, this is precisely where the road ends for me.

The once-clever plotting has now turned muddy and unclear. The female characters, which used to be complex and multi-faceted, have unfortunately regressed to being weak and one-dimensional.

Moreover, the emotional engagement that I had with the Lymond Chronicles has now completely turned to detachment.

Additionally, the stereotypes about Muslims and Arabs in these books have become extremely egregious and offensive. It's truly a shame that what started off with so much promise has ended up being such a letdown.
