This book contains some truly insightful and interesting writing about art.

The author's perspectives and analyses offer a fresh and engaging look at the world of art, delving into various aspects such as different art forms, the evolution of art, and the significance of art in society.

However, there is a drawback. The text is interspersed with correspondences that seem out of place.

These correspondences, which are not related to art, would have been better suited for a different book altogether.

They disrupt the flow and coherence of the narrative, pulling the reader's attention away from the main focus of the book, which is art.

Despite this flaw, the valuable content on art still makes the book worth reading for those interested in the subject.

It would be beneficial if the author could consider removing or relocating the correspondences to enhance the overall reading experience and make the book more focused and engaging.

This is a truly remarkable book that combines the seemingly contradictory qualities of being both tedious and extremely interesting.

The tedium that one might initially encounter is, in fact, the price one has to pay in order to gain access to the utterly fascinating world of Rothko.

It is a world that is rich in depth and complexity, filled with hidden meanings and emotions that are waiting to be discovered.

Despite the initial challenges, I found myself drawn back to this book time and time again, eager to explore its mysteries further.

However, I must admit that it is not a book for everyone.

Some may find the pace too slow or the subject matter too esoteric.

Nonetheless, for those who are willing to invest the time and effort, this book has the potential to be a truly rewarding and enlightening experience.

Overall, I would rate this book 3 stars, a rating that reflects both its strengths and its weaknesses.

Some personal letters that I came across were not very interesting to me. However, I still appreciate the fact that they exist. Each letter is a piece of someone's life, a snapshot of their thoughts and feelings at a particular moment in time.

Even though the content may not have been captivating, there is something special about holding a physical letter that was written by hand and sent through the mail. It gives a sense of connection to the past and to the people who wrote those letters.

I think it's important to respect and preserve these personal letters, even if they may not seem valuable to us at first glance. They may hold hidden treasures of information or emotions that could be discovered by future generations.

So, while some personal letters may not be to my taste, I will always appreciate the effort and thought that went into writing them.

The solitude remained unyielding and could not be overcome. It was a force that seemed to have a life of its own.

It could only gather on beaches, where the waves crashed and the sand shifted, as if by some strange coincidence. The empty stretches of sand and the vastness of the ocean provided a backdrop for the solitude to thrive.

On the streets, too, the solitude could be felt. The hustle and bustle of the city seemed to pass it by, leaving it untouched and unmoved. It lurked in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to make its presence known.

In the parks, the solitude found a different kind of haven. The green grass, the trees, and the flowers created a peaceful setting, but even here, the solitude could not be escaped. It was like a silent observer, watching over the activities of the people and the creatures that inhabited the park.

No matter where one went, the solitude was always there, an inescapable companion. -Rothko

Rothko's art is truly captivating, and I had a strong desire to gain more profound insights into the way he thought.

This book seemed like it should fulfill that purpose, but unfortunately, I found it extremely dense.

It is a highly challenging book, and I didn't enjoy reading it. Moreover, I didn't feel that I reaped much benefit from the effort I put in.

Sometimes, such books require us to turn them over in our minds a little, go back, reread, and ultimately synthesize the information.

I sincerely hope that this will be the case with this particular book.

At present, I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is attempting to understand Rothko. However, perhaps in a few months' time, after further reflection and study, it might prove to be a more valuable resource.
