The introduction of this book is truly great. It delves into the concept of "the idea-action", which immediately grabs the reader's attention and sets a solid foundation for the rest of the content.

The remainder of the book is also quite good. However, if you are an intermediate learner, you might find that some of the material is a little basic for your level.

Despite this, I personally really liked the book. It offers valuable insights and practical advice that can be beneficial to readers of all levels. The author's writing style is engaging and easy to understand, making it accessible to a wide range of audiences.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about the topic or looking for a practical guide to help them take action on their ideas.

This is an article that was recommended to be read by a professor.

It is not a horrible book by any means. However, it does have its drawbacks.

On one hand, it can come across as a little cheesy. The writing style and some of the情节 might seem a bit overly sentimental or lacking in sophistication.

On the other hand, it is also a little messy. The storyline might not be as clear and organized as one would hope, making it a bit difficult to follow at times.

Despite these flaws, it still has some redeeming qualities. It might offer some interesting perspectives or ideas that could be worth considering.

Overall, while it may not be a perfect book, it is still an interesting read that could potentially provide some value.

Maybe it's just because I've been immersing myself in reading craft books on plot without a break. However, this particular one didn't seem to bring a significant addition to the literature.

It's not that it was completely bad. There was a comprehensive discussion of Aristotle, which could be considered a plus.

But overall, it didn't really stand out or offer anything truly unique or revolutionary.

That's why I would rate it as just an average 3 stars. It did have its moments, but it didn't quite reach the level that would make it a must-read or a game-changer in the field of literature.

Still, it might be useful for some readers who are specifically interested in the topic of Aristotle's influence on plot or who are looking for a different perspective on the subject.

But for me, it was a bit of a disappointment considering the high expectations I had after reading so many other excellent craft books on plot.

On my pretentious shit,

I often find myself engaging in behaviors that might seem a bit over the top or showy to others. Maybe it's the way I dress, trying to stand out with unique fashion choices. Or perhaps it's the way I speak, using big words and fancy phrases just to sound more intelligent.

Sometimes I catch myself doing these things and wonder if I'm being too pretentious. But then again, I also think that it's a part of who I am. I like to express myself in my own way, even if it means being a little bit different from the norm.

I guess everyone has their own little quirks and pretensions. It's what makes us unique as individuals. And as long as I'm not hurting anyone or being too obnoxious about it, I might as well embrace my pretentious side and have some fun with it.

Michael Tierno takes Aristotle’s Poetics and meticulously breaks them down. He makes use of Aristotle’s profound ideas regarding how storytelling should be executed on the stage and then applies them to story structure for the big screen and writing in general.

By citing examples of other films that have successfully employed (either intentionally or not) Aristotle’s formulas for success, Tierno constructs a compelling case for why one should follow suit. Additionally, he dispenses valuable advice on how to get your script noticed by the bigwigs, considering he himself has been a story analyst for Miramax Films.

The book is structured with small chapters that cover various aspects in high detail, yet with minimal confusion. Given the subject matter has so many facets, the page count is relatively low for a reference book. Aristotle was truly remarkable when it came to story structure and the rules for writing comedies, tragedies, and drama in general, and all of these principles still hold true today.

The price of the book is quite reasonable. I purchased mine on Amazon.com for only about $10, and you can even find it brand new for just a bit more than that.

This book is extremely informative for a screenwriter like me who aspires to enhance their work. You will find yourself referring back to it time and again for valuable insights and guidance.

As a result of reading this book, I found myself re-watching a plethora of excellent movies. It was truly an enlightening experience. Among them, I watched "Slackers", a movie that, for some inexplicable reason, I had never seen before.

The moment I started watching "Slackers", I was immediately drawn into its unique charm. The story unfolded in a captivating manner, filled with interesting characters and unexpected twists.

And when it came to the ending of "Slackers", it was simply fantastic. It left me in awe, with a sense of satisfaction and a desire to watch it again. The way the plot was resolved was both clever and engaging, tying up all the loose ends in a most satisfying way.

Overall, this movie has become one of my new favorites, and I'm glad that this book led me to discover it. It just goes to show that sometimes, the things we least expect can turn out to be the most wonderful surprises.

Looking at it simply, the difference in narration gives people a framework for classifying and shaping different types of narration.

I think that in addition to being necessary for every screenwriter, reading it is also very desirable for every other genre of filmmaking, if not necessary.

The analysis that Tierno wrote about Boticca has not only made the subject more understandable but also made the hidden angles that may be hidden from the audience's view more transparent.

The last few lines of each chapter seem seriously ridiculous, as if you are watching a poorly made television advertisement. They are making fun of the audience and saying, "With just a drop of this dishwashing liquid, all the grease in the dishes will disappear."

Considering the other translations I have made, which are very popular, I wish these parts could be removed, although it is unprofessional, so that it doesn't look so Hollywood-like.

Of course, you can also look at the situation this way: Hollywood is just those few lines at the end of each chapter!

Fantastic distillation of the Poetics for drama and screenwriting!

There are so many helpful tips in here. It's truly amazing how much valuable information can be derived from this work.

Looking back, I can't help but wonder how I missed reading the Poetics during my college years. It seems like such an essential piece of literature for anyone interested in drama and screenwriting.

Thank you, Tierno, for bringing this to my attention. Your insights and analysis have been extremely beneficial.

I'm excited to explore the Poetics further and apply the principles and techniques I've learned to my own writing.

I'm sure it will enhance my work and help me create more engaging and impactful dramas and screenplays.

Once again, thank you for this wonderful resource.

The set of characters in this book revolves around tragedy, its correct design, its importance and its appearance in the film. In the literature of the book, the central core name of tragedy is called "the action of the main idea".

This book has carefully translated Aristotle's Poetics into a simple language that is suitable for the screenplay. However, the creative work of every narrative also comes into play.

The poetic text printed at the beginning of each section is not very complicated, but after reading, the interpretation of the book from the dramatic function of the text, its charm and the way it looks at Aristotle's words provides some interesting points. Especially those sections that explain the reason for the "functioning" of the drama in terms of psychology and human behavior.

That is: how it is better

And why it is better

The divisions of the book are very good and short, which not only makes reading smooth but also the titles of the sections alone give a part of the understanding of the content, so that you can even not read the text anymore :))))

I don't know how much of the poetic text has been quoted in the book, so I also became eager to read the original text.

Another point is that seeing this much attention to the narrative and its aspects in Greek culture from before Aristotle even shows us how far the difference between our poetry-based literature and their story-based literature is, and now such figures have been found in cinema, story and novel. And for me, the question is whether we have a text that is presented in this way, and also a textual style of our own that pays attention to the elegance of poetry and its methods.

Regarding the translation, it has really been done well. After all, it has passed the test of time.
