My husband and I had great success losing weight and getting stronger and more fit using Bill Phillips' "Body for Life" book back in 2000-2001. Now, 20 years later, I have gained 20 pounds (partially due to the Coronavirus Pandemic comfort eating and partially due to menopause) and at 60-years young, I need to get back in shape to life out the rest of my life in health.
This book is targeted mainly towards women, and that makes me happy. I am also using the Noom app to really understand the psychology of why I eat the way I do and how to make lasting changes. The teachings and guides in this book are quite familiar to me from BFL, and similar to Noom's teachings. The book is a bit dated in recommending use of Splenda. I use no artificial sweeteners, not even Stevia (can't stand it). I'm learning to like the taste of things without sweetener (except my coffee!). Mentally I know that resistance training will help me gain strength and lose weight - this book says resistance training is the most beneficial exercise for women in peri-menopause and full menopause.
