Ray Bradbury once said to "read poetry every day of your life". Inspired by his words, I began to pay closer attention to poetry. Recently, I had the opportunity to come across "Best Poems of the Brontë Sisters" by Emily Brontë.

This short collection of poems seemed to be a perfect fit for a rainy day. I have to admit that I didn't like "Wuthering Heights" and "Jane Eyre" when they were assigned to me in school. In fact, I have a general dislike for most classics. However, this book made me feel a twinge of guilt for my previous harsh treatment of the Brontë's works.

The poems in this collection are truly beautiful. It's hard to believe that when it was first published, it sold only two copies. They are not only beautiful but also painful, evoking the grief, loneliness, dreams, and love of the sisters. Charlotte's two poems, written after the deaths of Emily and Anne, are particularly heartbreaking. So is Anne's "Last Lines", written after Emily's death and shortly before her own.

I found myself falling in love with several of the poems, such as Charlotte's "Regret" and "The Teacher's Monologue", Emily's "The Night-Wind", and my absolute favorite, Anne's "If This Be All". The lines "If Life must be so full of care, Then call me soon to Thee; Or give me strength enough to bear My load of misery" from Anne's poem really touched my heart.

"Best Poems of the Brontë Sisters" has become my first favorite book of 2016, and I highly recommend it to all poetry lovers or fans of the sisters' works.

I'm not a huge poetry person. However, this collection was quite good. It had a decent number of poems from each sister.

I have a preference for Charlotte's novels. So, I was a bit taken aback when I found out that Emily had the most poems that I liked.
