3.5 Stars

This rating of 3.5 stars indicates a rather decent performance or quality. It's not quite a full 4 stars, which would suggest near-perfection, but it's also far from being mediocre. With 3.5 stars, there are definitely some亮点 that stand out. Perhaps the product or service offers good value for money, or it has some unique features that set it apart from the competition. However, there are also areas where it could be improved. Maybe the user experience could be enhanced, or there are some minor flaws that need to be addressed. Overall, a 3.5-star rating is a solid one, showing that the item in question has its strengths and weaknesses, but is still worthy of consideration. It gives a sense of balance and provides potential customers or users with an idea of what to expect.

I decided to read this book as I purchased a poster featuring 100 books to read in one's lifetime. I had thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series and thus desired to continue with it. I am truly inspired and in awe of the author. I knew that I wanted to carry on with this series and gain a deeper understanding of her life.

This book pertains to the deaths of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. It is the sixth volume out of seven in Maya Angelou’s autobiography. It serves as a testament to the remarkable talents and unwavering resilience of this outstanding writer. Set between 1965 and 1968, the book commences with Maya's journey from Accra, Ghana, where she had resided for the past four years, back to the United States. The assassinations of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. frame the beginning and end of the book respectively. Maya vividly describes how she coped with these momentous events, the sweeping changes in both the country and her personal life, and her adjustment upon returning home to the US. The book concludes with Maya on the verge of embarking on her literary career.

Ordinarily, I encounter difficulties with non-fiction books. I often find them slow-paced and rather dull, and I struggle to fully engage with them and relish the reading experience. However, with this particular book, I was able to enjoy it. Although the book still delves into serious and challenging topics, it is a captivating journey of her discovery of her voice, her transformation into a writer, and her handling of the deaths of two significant figures. It is almost as if she is writing about a fictional character in a storyline, to the extent that I had to remind myself several times that she is the main character and that she is sharing her own life experiences. The concerns and sadness she expressed regarding Malcolm and Martin were truly heartrending. I would have loved to have seen some chapters from her son's perspective, especially as he makes a re-appearance and finds love. I was eager to know how he met his partner and if he had anything to say to her after what transpired between her and his mother.

Once again, similar to the previous book, towards the end, it feels somewhat rushed. I believe this is a deliberate ploy to entice the reader to pick up the next book. I am somewhat hopeful that with only one book remaining in this series, this pattern will cease and reach a conclusive point. I am hoping that she ultimately finds happiness and peace.

I absolutely loved this entire series. It was truly captivating from start to finish.

However, I couldn't help but feel that it ended far too soon. Just as I was getting completely immersed in the story and the characters, it suddenly came to an end.

I have this insatiable curiosity to know more. What happened to the characters after the final chapter? Were there any unresolved storylines that could have been explored further?

I find myself constantly thinking about this series and longing for more content. It has left such a lasting impression on me that I can't seem to let it go.

I hope that the author will consider continuing the series or perhaps releasing some additional material that will satisfy my craving for more. Until then, I will continue to cherish the memories of this wonderful series and wait patiently for any future developments.
