DNF after the fourth volume.

I truly relished reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. So much so that I decided to purchase this collection which encompassed most of Angelou's autobiographies. However, to my disappointment, the subsequent three volumes simply did not measure up to the first one.

This book has been sitting on my currently reading shelf for what seems like an eternity. At this point, I have to be brutally honest with myself and admit that this is a DNF.

I do have an inclination to return to I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings at some future juncture. But as for reading any more of her autobiographies, I highly doubt it.

It's a shame really, as the first volume was so captivating and had me hooked from the very beginning. But unfortunately, the magic seemed to wear off with the later volumes.

Perhaps it's just a matter of personal taste, but for me, the subsequent books failed to capture the same essence and charm as the first.

Nonetheless, I will always remember the impact that I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings had on me and cherish that reading experience.

I'm currently on page 380. I zipped through "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" and I'm almost finished with "Gather Together in My Name". Maya Angelou, at just 19 years old, has lived a life more eventful than many. She is a vivid writer, and her works are extremely readable. It's such a page turner! Next up is "Singin' and Swingin' and Gettin' a Merry Christmas."

Update: It's still a page turner. I'm almost done with the fourth book now, around page 780-ish. 8/18/14

She's still in her 30's. I'm starting Book 5, "Swing Low Sweet Chariot". She's in Africa, and we'll see where she ends up. From the title, it seems this book is "comin' for to carry her home."

The most memorable thing about this woman is her resourcefulness and proactivism in the face of downturns. Over and over again, she gets up and gets going!

I finished it over Labor Day Weekend. It was good all the way through. My favorites were the first two books, which were the freshest and most vivid. But it was an easy read and interesting from page one to the end.

I recently listened to the BBC Radio adaptation. It was truly a remarkable experience.

The way they brought the story to life through the power of sound was simply outstanding. The actors' performances were top-notch, breathing life into each character and making them feel real and engaging.
