A very different book than the previous ones I've read by James Patterson.

Although the book is heavily focused on golf as a vehicle to tell the story, you don't need to be a golfer (I'm not) to enjoy it.

The story follows Travis, a man entering mid-life who has the perfect storm brewing. He's about to be let go from his job, his marriage is falling apart, and he misses Christmas Eve dinner with the family as he practices golf and finds the zone.

The story takes you through his entry into the senior golf tour, the lessons he's learned from his grandfather and from his caddy, and the lessons he's learned about life. If you don't like doing something (like his job), don't do it. Perhaps being downsized was the best thing that happened to him.

We all have choices to make, in marriage, in careers, and in what club to use for the next shot.

Not a riveting book, but one that held my attention as I wanted to know more about his relationship with his wife (an OB/GYN) and with his children.

And, yes, I wanted to know if he made it to the senior tour and how he managed to play along with some of the PGA's greatest golfers.

The Miracle on the 17th Green? Read the book and find out.

This is a truly nice feel-good book that features a very likeable main character named Travis. He is a bit of an underdog, facing various challenges and obstacles along the way. However, despite all the difficulties, the story ultimately has a happy ending, which is really satisfying.

It's a nice and easy read that doesn't require too much mental effort. The plot is engaging enough to keep you interested from start to finish, yet it's not overly complicated or convoluted. The author does a great job of developing Travis' character, making him relatable and someone you really root for.

Overall, if you're looking for a light-hearted and enjoyable book to read, this one is definitely worth checking out. It will leave you with a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart.

I really enjoyed reading this story about living life to pursue one's dreams.

It was truly inspiring to see how the protagonist was so determined and passionate about achieving what they wanted.

Their journey was not without obstacles and challenges, but they never gave up.

They continued to push forward, learning from their mistakes and growing stronger along the way.

This story made me realize that we all have the power within us to pursue our dreams and make them a reality.

No matter how difficult the path may seem, as long as we have the courage and perseverance, we can overcome anything.

I will definitely take this message to heart and use it as motivation to pursue my own dreams.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story.

I have a great affection for James Patterson and an equal love for golf. However, this particular book failed to capture my interest.

It was penned early in Patterson's career, so I'm willing to give him a bit of leeway. Nevertheless, I couldn't establish any connection with a single character. Right from the outset, every aspect of the story seemed far-fetched, and I struggled to believe a word of it.

The descriptions provided were also rather lackluster. I wasn't anticipating a masterpiece, considering he isn't a sports writer. But it didn't give the impression of someone who has truly lived through the events being described.

I推测 Patterson enjoys playing golf, has watched it on TV, and perhaps even attended a few live events. But he doesn't seem to have a deep understanding of the intricacies of life on the golf circuit. (I could essentially say I have similar experiences, and if I had attempted to write a story about golf, it would probably be much like this.)

I might be underestimating him, and perhaps he is more involved in the golf scene than I think. But if that's the case, then he really struggles when it comes to writing about it.

The part that bothered me the most, though, was the fact that the title of this book was "Miracle." I'm not sure if I would describe what happened as anything remotely close to a miracle. In fact, I don't think it even meets the definition of a miracle.

I actually had no idea this book existed until I saw the sequel for sale at the store. But now that I've read it, I might just skip the next one (or at least not be in a huge hurry to read it).

PART I:

So far I am truly impressed with this book. Patterson has, yet again, managed to capture my attention. When I initially started reading, I had a bit of difficulty getting into it as golf isn't my top personal interest. However, as I persisted in reading, the book gradually became more captivating.

While Patterson is描绘 the character of Travis McKinley's Christmas, it actually made me angry. But as I read further, I understood that he wasn't deliberately being a jerk. As McKinley spent time on the golf course, he was in a world of his own, simply escaping the reality of his life.

As McKinley detailed his life, it made me feel sorry for the guy. He was having issues with his wife, was distant from his kids, and loathed his job. On that particular Christmas Day while playing golf, McKinley simply overcame a putting problem. It was as if things suddenly became easy for him. But when he checked his watch, on the other hand, he realized that he had stood up his only family for Christmas dinner. Obviously, this caused several problems within the family, and he dug himself into a deeper hole.

During an outing with some friends, McKinley makes an announcement about wanting to go to Qualifying School. If he could perform well there, it would lead him into the Senior Tour. McKinley's buddies laugh and crack jokes, but then he realizes that he hasn't told his wife. Little does McKinley know, his oldest of three children has set up a date for him and his wife, and it just so happens to be New Year's. During the date, McKinley wants to tell his wife about the tour but doesn't get the opportunity as his wife is a leading obstetrician.

When he returns to work, McKinley is attempting to come up with an advertisement for a new Kellogg's cereal. As he returns to his office from lunch, he discovers that he is being fired after a miserable twenty-three years of working for the same company. Since he now has plenty of time, McKinley picks up his four-year-old from Nursery School, then goes home and makes dinner for the family. During dinner, McKinley makes the announcement that he has been fired and that he will also be attending Qualifying School. His two boys are somewhat supportive of his decision, but his wife is not as much.

Later, McKinley is found on the green once again, this time not alone. Accompanying him is Edwin Joseph McKinley, his ninety-two-year-old grandfather. This is the man who taught McKinley everything he needed to know about golf and is still teaching him things. McKinley confides in his grandfather about his decision to go to Qualifying School, his job loss, and the problems he is facing at home. His grandfather is very supportive of his choice to go to Qualifying School and only says a few words about the rest.

Travis McKinley: A man who is obsessed with golf, and his relationship with his wife and children is slowly deteriorating.

Sarah McKinley: A woman who has a highly successful job and is married to Travis McKinley.

Edwin McKinley: Lived a hard life on a farm and is very outspoken.

So far, the events in this book could and do occur in real life every day. The entire family situation, the job loss, and even the obsession with golf happen all around the world on a daily basis.

This was indeed a good story. However, the language employed was truly excessive.

There was no perceivable need for vulgarity. It really spoilt the entire experience for me.

After all, this is a miracle story. How can there be no respect for the One who performs miracles?

CathyR's comment makes a valid point. We should always strive to maintain a certain level of dignity and respect in our communication, especially when dealing with such profound and spiritual themes.

The use of inappropriate language not only detracts from the beauty and essence of the story but also shows a lack of regard for the subject matter and the potential impact it can have on the readers.

It is essential to remember that words have power, and we should use them wisely and thoughtfully to convey our intended message in a positive and respectful way.

As the old saying goes, "Never judge a book by its cover (or its title)." I have to admit that initially, I truly didn't think I would have any interest in this book. After all, I had no prior knowledge or understanding of the golf terminology that was bound to be present within its pages.

However, as I delved deeper into the story, I found myself completely captivated. Despite my lack of familiarity with the golf-related jargon, the narrative itself was so engaging and well-written that I couldn't put the book down. It turns out that this is yet another outstanding work from the talented James Patterson.

His ability to craft a compelling story that transcends the specific details and jargon of a particular subject is truly remarkable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, regardless of their knowledge or interest in golf. It's a great read that will keep you entertained from start to finish.

If you have a passion for golf, or perhaps you live it like I do, with three boys who seem to be golfing around the clock (24/7!), then this is a super quick read for you. It's only about an hour long, and it tells the story of a man whose life was in a complete shambles. He took a huge gamble and decided to follow his lifelong dream, and it turned out to be the best move he ever made.

However, I must admit that I'm not that into golf myself. Maybe that's why I gave it three stars. But don't let that deter you if you're a golf enthusiast. The story might still hold some interesting insights and inspiration for you.

Overall, it's a short and engaging read that can offer a glimpse into the power of following one's dreams, even in the face of chaos and uncertainty. So, if you're looking for a quick and easy read, give this one a try.

Years ago, I delved into my very first Patterson novel, and ever since that moment, I have been gradually making my way through nearly everything he has penned. To be completely honest, if this particular work wasn't by Patterson and one of his co-authors, I highly doubt I would have picked it up. However, fate smiled upon me last week when I visited Goodwill and happened to stumble across a small hardback of one of his earlier creations that I had never laid eyes on before. I simply couldn't resist the opportunity to cross another of his books off my "to-read" list.

I have no affinity for golf. In fact, I downright loathe it. I have no desire to play it, nor will I watch it, whether in person or on television. Given that this short novel revolved around golf, I had my reservations. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try. I found myself getting a bit lost in some of the golf slang, but for the most part, I was quite fond of the overall story arc. It was a relatively quick read for me, so I can't really complain. However, had it been any longer or more in-depth, I would have likely set it aside.

Since it took me only about an hour to breeze through this book, and it helped me reduce the number of books I'm behind on in my reading challenge by one, I didn't mind the short, fable-like nature of the story. However, this isn't my typical go-to genre when it comes to selecting books. I liked it well enough to enjoy it while I was reading it. I was curious to find out what the actual "miracle on the 17th green" was going to be, but now that I know, I doubt I'll be re-reading it anytime soon. Perhaps in about 10 years or so.

The Miracle On The 17th Green

The Miracle On The 17th Green by James Patterson was an absolutely awesome book.

I have a great passion for golf and was eager to find something that closely resembled my own experiences. This book is truly a great choice for anyone who has a deep understanding and love for the great game of golf.

Although I don't usually read a lot, this book had such a powerful hold on me that I simply couldn't put it down. Every moment I spent reading it made me long to be out on the golf course.

However, this book is not solely about golf. It delves into how a man can draw parallels between golf and the significance of his wife in his life. It's a modern-day book that explores the ways people navigate through life and how a man should conduct himself within his marriage.

The pressure vividly described by the author is precisely what it feels like in real life. Imagine standing over a shot with a large crowd watching, your nerves on edge. You're two under on the last hole, while your opponent is three under but putting for a double bogey, and you have a putt for birdie. These are the wonderful thrills that this book offers, and that's precisely why I have a genuine liking for this book.
