Amazing! It shed a whole new light on her for me. Before this incident, I had a certain perception of her. But now, everything has changed. It was as if a hidden side of her suddenly emerged, revealing a depth and complexity that I had never suspected. This newfound understanding has made me see her in a completely different way. I now realize that there is so much more to her than what meets the eye. It's like uncovering a precious gem that had been hidden beneath the surface. This experience has truly been eye-opening and has deepened my appreciation for her as a person.

It wasn't one of my favorite books.

I had high hopes when I first picked it up, but as I delved deeper into the story, I found myself losing interest. The plot seemed to drag on at times, and the characters didn't really capture my imagination.

There were moments when I thought it might redeem itself, but unfortunately, those moments were few and far between.

I tried to push through and finish it, but in the end, I was left feeling rather disappointed.

Maybe it was just not the right book for me at this time, or perhaps there were aspects of it that I simply didn't understand.

Either way, it's safe to say that it won't be a book that I'll be recommending to others anytime soon.

Usually, even when it comes to the subjects that I truly love, I encounter difficulties in persevering with non-fiction and biographies. I tend to simply read them when they happen to be within my reach. In contrast, a novel is something that I'm likely to carry around everywhere with me. However, this book was distinct. The style is truly narrative, and the author employs quotes from the actual people in the story in such a manner that it truly comes to life. The author's approach is of particular significance, especially when dealing with a subject as polarizing and controversial as Joan. Spoto's view is remarkably well-balanced. Although he is clearly a fan of Joan, he approaches her religious revelations within the context of the time. He uses language and custom to accurately explain her actions and words, as well as the beliefs of the people surrounding her. This makes the story not only engaging but also provides a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural background.

Very good. It is truly astonishing how much of the so-called "common knowledge" regarding St. Joan's life and martyrdom is actually false. This remarkable book does an outstanding job of presenting the real St. Joan. As one reads through the account of her trial, it can be extremely frustrating. You find yourself on the verge of screaming at the blatant and outright injustice of it all. The details presented in the book paint a vivid picture of the circumstances she faced and the unfair treatment she endured. It makes one realize the importance of looking beyond the surface and seeking the truth. Through this book, we are given a more accurate and in-depth understanding of St. Joan, allowing us to appreciate her courage and sacrifice in a whole new light.

I found this book to be extremely interesting and at the same time, quite horrifying.

It is truly astonishing how power and money can have such a devastating impact. In this case, they ultimately led to the tragic death of a young girl.

She had profound revelations and unwaveringly followed her Lord. However, her accusers, who were men, seemed to have motives that were more centered around themselves rather than anything related to Joan.

Her wisdom, fortitude, and integrity are qualities that are not only remarkable but also well worth learning about.

They serve as an inspiration and a reminder of the importance of staying true to one's beliefs and values, even in the face of great adversity.

This book offers a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of these themes, leaving the reader with a deep sense of reflection and admiration for the young girl who stood up for what she believed in.

I absolutely adored this book.

It is exquisitely written, with a prose that flows smoothly and captivatingly. From the very first page, it managed to grip my interest firmly and hold it throughout the entire reading experience.

The author's talent shines through every word, painting vivid pictures in my mind and making me feel as if I was right there in the story.

Truly, she is a Saint. Her ability to create such a wonderful literary work is nothing short of remarkable.

This book has become one of my all-time favorites, and I cannot wait to explore more of her writings in the future.

It is a must-read for anyone who appreciates great literature and wants to be transported to another world through the power of words.

This was an extremely moving non-fiction book.

It is truly astonishing to discover just how corrupt the church and state can become when there are individuals vying for power.

The story within these pages offers a vivid and eye-opening account of the lengths to which some will go in their pursuit of authority.

For anyone who has a deep fascination with St. Joan, this book is an absolute must-read.

It provides valuable insights into the complex and often tumultuous times in which she lived, as well as the forces that were at play.

Highly recommended, it is sure to leave a lasting impression on the reader.

I generally have a great enjoyment for biographies, and I was particularly pleased to come across a book about a Catholic Saint. It didn't actually dawn on me until I was already in the process of listening that an author might approach the Church or a Saint in a negative way, perhaps mocking them or dismissing their religious experience from a secular perspective. However, this was most definitely not the case with this book. Mr. Spoto treats Joan and her claims with the utmost respect.

Regarding Joan, I was truly shocked at how brief her meteoric rise was. What's even more incredible is that this peasant girl was able to change the course of an entire nation and history, all based solely on her unwavering faith in God. It's truly amazing. Also quite incredible is the fact that she was forsaken by her local Church and King, only to be rediscovered and honored by the universal Church and France after her sham trial and execution.

Her story is one that is both tragic and inspiring, and it serves as a reminder of the power of faith and the importance of standing up for what one believes in, even in the face of great adversity.

Not at all what I wanted.

I desired the story to be presented in the chronological order of the events that took place in Joan of Arc's life. I longed to read an actual narrative, even if it incorporated imagined conversations. At the very least, I wanted to peruse a biography that resembled a storybook.

INSTEAD, Spoto tells the story as if the reader is already familiar with it and he is merely providing a bit of deeper information. He writes in the style of a critic. This feels like some sort of essay about her. It's not enjoyable to read. It is informative, but perhaps a little repetitive? I'm not sure what others would say.

However, it is filled with his opinions, critiques, thoughts, and such to a greater extent than it simply relays information about Joan.

I simply believe that I didn't need to read beyond chapter two. I could anticipate how this book was going to unfold and I just wasn't engaged. The back cover of the book discloses sufficient details about its contents. There really seems to be no point in reading this book.

Dry book but this girl was fascinating!

Despite the fact that the book might seem dry at times, the story of this girl is truly captivating. I really appreciate the way the author didn't downplay her revelations. It's truly astonishing how much she accomplished as a teenager. She had such determination and drive, which is truly inspiring.

I didn't necessarily agree with all of the author's religious sentiments, but I have to give him credit for being fair to Joan and showing her the respect she deserves. He presented her story in a way that made me want to keep reading, even when the subject matter wasn't something I was particularly interested in.

Overall, I think this book is a great read for anyone who is interested in history, or in the story of a remarkable young woman who defied the odds and made a name for herself. It's a testament to the power of the human spirit and the importance of following your dreams, no matter what obstacles you may face.

Spoto's portrayal of Joan presents a vivid image of a brave, patriotic, and deeply spiritual girl. She unwaveringly adhered to what she firmly believed was God's will.

His detailed accounts of her months of solitude, terror, and intense suffering are truly heart-wrenching. Chained in a dark dungeon, on the verge of starvation, and facing the disgraceful and dishonest attacks from her tormentors, it is impossible not to be moved, even for those who may have initially been skeptical of Joan.

Spoto's writing style is engaging and lively, and he makes no attempt to conceal his admiration for this remarkable teenage girl or his own religious sensibilities. However, this work is far from being a mere sermon. Instead, it is an enthralling biography that serves as an excellent introduction to Joan of Arc. It also enriches the understanding of those who continue to be captivated by her story, nearly six hundred years after her tragic execution.
