I have to admit, as I was reading this one, I initially felt a little corny. The plot seemed somewhat predictable and the characters not overly complex at first glance. However, as I delved deeper into the story, I found myself completely engrossed.

It was a very enjoyable story indeed. The author managed to create a world that was both familiar and yet had its own unique charm. The relationships between the characters were well-developed and the dialogue was engaging.

I dunno, maybe it was the simplicity of the story that appealed to me. Or perhaps it was the way the author was able to bring the characters to life on the page. Whatever the reason, I'm glad I took the time to read it.

My opinion is highly emotionally skewed. I had the misfortune of working in a metaphysical crystal shop for a whopping 5 years. During this time, I was so deeply immersed in the New Age world that I felt like I was drowning in it. Just the thought of someone wanting to take a picture of my aura while playing a quartz crystal bowl tuned to my heart chakra and chanting a Native American blessing song makes me want to violently attack them. I don't know why this is the case. It's the same when crazy evangelical Christians ask if I've found Jesus yet and start spitting out gibberish that they claim is the tongue of God. Perhaps it's because it gives off a "cult" vibe and I immediately go into defense mode.

With all of this said, it's no surprise that I don't like "The Celestine Prophecy". While I can somewhat appreciate its so-called "insights", something this simple really doesn't need to be hailed as some sort of spiritual breakthrough book. Just because some guy came up with a fanciful story involving life energy channels (I'd much rather watch "Donnie Darko"), crystals, and auras doesn't make it anything special. This book is just a dressed-up version of common ideas, like negative projection onto others, passed off as "insights" that needed to be "discovered" through a New Age modern Indiana Jones style adventure.

I know I'm being overly harsh, but really, enough with the crystals and quantum healing already.

With all of this said, if you're emotionally, psychologically, or spiritually deprived in any way and you need a fantasy built around truly fundamental emotional, psychological, and spiritual lessons, then I guess you could read this. After all, most of America has, so you won't be alone. It's so simple that even a kindergartener could understand it.

Oh! You know what I just realized? I thought I was writing about "The Secret" in that last paragraph! Woops!

My dad said this book easily makes his top 5.

And I, so far, can see why.

The content seems quite interesting and engaging.

However, I am more captivated in two other books as well.

These two books have unique storylines and characters that draw me in completely.

As a result, it makes it harder for me to focus on this particular book.
