In this story, there is no comedy, nor is there a side character with an unusual bodily appendage, which are both regular occurrences in Carl Hiaasen's other books. However, what we do have here is a wonderful tale. It is about an American professor in China who uncovers a crime that reaches high into the Chinese bureaucracy. The setting of the story is described in great detail, allowing the reader to vividly picture the scenes in their mind. The characters are also truly wonderful. Each one has their own unique personality and characteristics that make them come alive on the page. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. It is a quick read, which means you can finish it in a relatively short amount of time. But don't let its brevity fool you. It is well worth your time as it offers an engaging and exciting plot that will keep you hooked from start to finish. Overall, this is a great book that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an interesting and enjoyable read.
