This is the third of Hiaasen's YA novels that I've read (after Scat & Hoot).

I just love them. They're not as wild and funny as his adult fiction, but I enjoy them all the same.

It's nice that they only take a couple of hours to read. I can't wait until I can share them with my kids.

As with all of Hiaasen's YA novels, this one deals with villainous Floridians who are destroying the environment.

There are also the plucky kids who won't let them get away with it, and the quirky grown-ups who help them.

The story is engaging and full of adventure.

It teaches important lessons about protecting the environment and standing up for what's right.

Hiaasen's writing is vivid and descriptive, making it easy to picture the characters and settings in your mind.

I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a good YA adventure story.

It's a quick and enjoyable read that will leave you feeling inspired.

Flush caught my attention when a professor at the community college where I work was in search of a novel related to the environment, yet not overly challenging for some of his lower-level readers.

Although I hadn't read it at that moment, based on the reviews, Flush seemed like the ideal book for the task.

The novel centers around two teenagers, Noah and Abby. They are striving to expose a casino boat owner whom they suspect is dumping the casino's septic waste into the local beach to cut costs.

Their father, a vocal advocate for the environment, had recently been imprisoned for sinking the casino boat in protest. So, Noah and Abby are determined to clear their father's name.

As the storyline unfolds, the reader discovers the strain that the extreme-action environmentalism is placing on Noah and Abby's parents' marriage.

The students adored this book. It was a perfect match for those who lack confidence in reading, as it was contemporary and Hiaasen's eccentric characters truly appealed to them.

I was so delighted with their response that I intend to read more of Hiassen's books to determine if they are all suitable for "reluctant readers."

No offense to you guys in Florida, but y'all are really weird.

I have a theory that this weirdness might be caused by the fact that Florida doesn't really have a proper winter, and as a result, the residents have an excess amount of vitamin D.

Also, cohabitating with dinosaurs in the form of alligators, various snakes and lizards, and manatees could potentially play a factor.

Carl Hiaasen does an excellent job of capturing that strange essence in his works.

"Flush" is a really fun story about sinking a casino boat because human waste was being dumped into protected water.

If you have ever worked on a casino boat or know someone who has, there's a very good chance that they have also thought about destroying the boat.

There is a local casino boat company that I would love to see sink because they are a bunch of criminals.

They rake in tons of money every day, but they pay their employees very little, have eliminated all full-time positions except for those who just push papers, and contribute nothing to the local economy.

This company has grown so large that they had to split into smaller companies to avoid problems with the IRS.

"Flush" is a typical Carl Hiassen book for young readers, with silly characters, a mystery to solve, and an important lesson about not being jerks to the environment.

I truly liked the remarkable way these kids carried on from where their Dad had left off.

Imagine this - their Dad was in jail! But that didn't stop them. They managed to find a way to prove him right. Now, don't get me wrong. I wouldn't want my own kids pulling such stunts in real life. Haha, I guess you could call me a scaredy-cat.

However, this is a book, and specifically a Hiaasen book. So, I was certain that the kids would come out victorious in the end. After all, they and their Dad were the good guys, simply trying to protect the environment.

And as it turns out,

Overall, it was an enjoyable book that kept me engaged from start to finish.
