What an incredibly entertaining book this is!

I absolutely adored the main character, Jack Tagger. He was so engaging and full of charm. The plot was not only interesting but also had enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat. The witty dialogue added a touch of humor and made the story even more enjoyable. There was a perfect blend of adventure and mystery, which made it a truly captivating read.

The author's writing was excellent. The descriptions were vivid, painting a clear picture in my mind. I could easily imagine the scenes and the characters as if they were right in front of me. It was a pleasure to read this book and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an entertaining and engaging read.

A journalist who was disciplined for loudly confronting the owner of the newspaper at a shareholder's meeting has spent years writing beautiful and brilliant obituaries. He has become obsessed with death. And while writing an obituary for a rockstar who has lost his former glory, he stumbles upon a murder.

This is my first Hiaasen book, and I must say he truly has a talent for showing us how to both mock and love "Florida Man," no matter where he lives or what he does. Perhaps it's because the charming yet incredibly foolish part of the American Dream often resides in Florida, and its name is Carl Hiaasen. He makes us all into court jesters.

Another quick observation: This book started off well, then got better, and by the end, I was really in love with it. He really knows how to create a lovable jerk, which is kind of reminiscent of Fletch, but in all the good ways.

Hiaasen also knows how to criticize those who have killed the newspaper, the novel, basically anyone who is against the profound meaning of the printed word. He uses his writing to shine a light on the importance of the written word and the value it holds in our society.

This book has been sitting on my shelf for years. I obtained it at my favorite used book store and simply hadn't found the time to pick it up and read it.

However, after reading the very first page, I immediately knew that it was going to be an exciting and engaging experience. It was filled with fun and had a cheeky charm to it. The story itself was highly compelling, drawing me in and making me eager to find out what would happen next.

The main character was truly genuine. They had their flaws, which made them all the more relatable and likable. Moreover, the cast of supporting characters was also very likable, adding depth and variety to the story.

The only reason that I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 was because the romance aspect felt a bit too much like a 46-year-old man's fantasy. Everything just seemed to fall into place too neatly and perfectly. But aside from that minor criticism, this novel was an excellent choice for a quarantine read. It provided entertainment, escape, and a great way to pass the time during these challenging times.
