Even though the size of his books is truly daunting, I am never disappointed by Michener. His works are like vast universes waiting to be explored. Each page is filled with rich details, vivid characters, and captivating storylines that draw the reader in and keep them hooked until the very end. Michener has a remarkable ability to bring history to life, making it not only educational but also highly entertaining. Whether it's a sweeping epic set in a distant land or a more intimate tale of love and loss, his writing always manages to touch the heart and leave a lasting impression. Despite the length of his books, I find myself eagerly devouring every word, reluctant to reach the final page. Michener's novels are a testament to his talent and creativity, and I will continue to be a忠实 fan for years to come.

Kyle and I have a great interest in both science and politics.

Therefore, we found it extremely easy to like this book. The problems and discussions related to the launch of our first rockets were truly enjoyable.

Even the political aspect of the book was presented in a smooth manner, seamlessly bringing the story together for the reader.

'Space' endeavors to capture all the viewpoints of the space race while adhering to Michener's ideas and thoughts on what should have happened.

It is always beneficial to look back at the past to identify our mistakes. This book attempts to do just that while also accurately presenting what really took place.

Looking back on the book, I cannot identify a slow part or a chapter that I could have done without.

I also appreciate how Michener incorporated the religious perspective.

Ironically, we read this book just before the space shuttle Columbia burned up in the atmosphere. Although the book did not predict this tragedy, it did discuss the problems that occurred during the start of the shuttle program and the possibility of error.

At times, I had difficulty distinguishing between what was true and what was fictional. However, this only piqued my interest to refer to a textbook to find out what actually happened.

I was also comparing this book with the movie 'The Right Stuff', which讲述了 the story of the pilots who eventually became astronauts. This book filled in the gaps that 'The Right Stuff' left out.

Far from being Michener's best or most enlightening work, this piece leaves much to be desired.

It does manage to adequately describe the arc of the US space program, and somewhat eerily forecasts today's political environment dominated by Evangelical Protestantism and anti-intellectualism. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that using fiction to tell this story was, in this case, an unnecessary and distracting shortcut.

In "The Source", I could understand the necessity of using fictional elements and it worked well. But in "Space", it felt more like an alternative reality story. Michener invented a 51st state (Fremont) and a host of fictional characters to interact with real ones such as Lyndon Johnson, John Glenn, and Wehrner Von Braun. He even created Gemini and Apollo missions that never took place, all to provide a launch pad for a group of astronauts who never existed.

While he does convey the important message that our era of serious space science was largely a political necessity during the Cold War, he relies too much on fictional details to do so. Given that the actual facts were easily accessible during his research and writing of this book, I couldn't help but feel cheated by it.

Overall, "Space" falls short of what it could have been and leaves the reader with a sense of dissatisfaction.

This is a good space book, if you have a passion for space and an interest in the political aspect of things.

I actually did enjoy this book to some extent as certain events described within it were real. At the very beginning of the book, the author carefully explains what is real and what other elements have been imagined before one starts reading.

I was quite fond of the first two chapters. However, after that, my level of interest kind of fluctuated. I'm not into politics at all, but I do have a liking for the space side of it.

Truth be told, it's just not the type of book that completely grabs my attention. I found myself constantly thinking about what it must be like to be a part of NASA and how incredibly hard it is for all the astrologists, with all the planning and engineering involved in building a rocket to space.

Unfortunately for me, I hold the belief that Neil Armstrong did not actually go to the moon, although I think the Apollo 11 mission was real.

Anyway, this book was good in its own way, but it simply wasn't for me. That's precisely why I rate it a 2 star.
