I followed Rick Warren's instructions and read one chapter per day to savor all the learnings and messages in this book. A lot of them confirmed the beliefs that I already have on the reason why we are here in this world and why some things do not go according to our plan.

"Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

Still, there were a lot more new insights that I learned which deepened my faith in God and His purpose for my life.

Anytime you feel you are not learning anything from a sermon or a Bible teacher, you should check your attitude, especially for pride, because God can speak through even the most boring teacher when you are humble and receptive.

This passage struck me because I often felt sad about not seeming to learn anything from a sermon because the priest was too boring.

We are blessed to be a blessing. We are saved to serve, not to sit around and wait for heaven. At the end of your life on earth you will stand before God, and he is going to evaluate how well you served others with your life.

If you want to keep growing, the best way to learn more is to pass on what you have already learned. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped. Anyone who knows the right thing to do but does not do it is sinning. Knowledge increases responsibility. But passing along the purpose of life is more than obligation; it's one of life's greatest privileges.

Some people sometimes mock me for reading and posting about such spiritual things and even relating it with the holy use of money. These are the people whom I need to reach out to. I pray that they, too, will realize that their purpose here is not to serve their own self-interest but to serve God by serving others.

Daily Inspiration for the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren is the companion book of The Purpose Driven Life. It focuses on biblical quotes that call for 40 days of inspirational study and meditation. The crux of such devotions is centered on The Great Commandment and Commission. Believers should learn from the following: 1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind; 2) Love your neighbor as yourself; 3) Go and make disciples of all nations; 4) Baptize followers; and 5) Teach them to obey.

In this book of reflections much is expected of believers. Mainly, they have to love God. Everything they do they should realize that it’s only through the mercies of a loving God that they are able to do such things. To think otherwise is to miss the reason of God in their lives. There’s a profound reason to love our neighbors. Our neighbors must be like our best friends. All good things that we wish ourselves we should wish for them. There should be no jealousies or pettiness in this relationship. They should have similar rights like us. Even if they are poor or homeless they shouldn’t be treated differently. It’s God who's watching our actions. He knows our hearts, and what we are thinking, and feeling.

Warren’s meditations clearly show that as Christians we have the responsibility to proclaim the Gospel to others. It doesn’t matter if these people live locally, nationally, or internationally. Christianity has a global outreach, and all Christians have to share this responsibility of making disciples - winning converts of unbelievers. Basically those individuals who have accepted the Word ought to be baptized in the death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is how they are saved. These converts will share their time, talent, and treasure with their church. These gifts are necessary for growing the body of Christ.

According to the author, Christians will come to realize that obedience is necessary. God loves it when we obey him for that’s the way believers will be faithful servants. Those that are responsible in little are responsible in much. And Christians will be certain of their heavenly rewards. Each individual will take away different perspectives from these reflections. The authenticity of God’s Word has to be followed to achieve spiritual growth. This is the only way to be assured of our destiny when we depart our temporary home earth, for a life in heaven.

40 Days with Rick Warren was a transformational experience for me. This is the second time that I read the book. Perhaps it was the drastic change in our society since my first reading in 2002 and my uncomfortable reaction to a world that has turned violent and Godless. Warren's deep spiritual knowledge and his understanding of human nature have given me hope; not with a nation so thoroughly divided, but with a deep appreciation of life.

I began reading THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE the day after Christmas. Then I later added PDL Reflection book. It is great to have the Scriptures and main point of each section in one place. Quick references to easily locate. I plan to re-read PDL starting tomorrow, even though I just finished Day 42 today.

This book starts from scratch about your purpose in life and relationship with God. It goes through all the details of why you are here and what you can (or should) do.

I have the audio, too, and listen to it again and again. It´s like a "spiritual snack for in between". Strength, motivation, a clear perspective... yep, read it and feel the results in your spirit.

This is not a normal book that one sets down to read. It is not meant to be read at all in fact, rather, to be reflected upon. Extracts from the Bible point one into the direction of living life purposely. So, there, boom, from the word start, that is the raison d'etre of this book: That life has a purpose. The book then leads you to how you can do this, why it is worth doing this according to the Word of God. If you are a nihilistic atheist, this is not for you. If you are an open minded atheist not completely or overwhelmingly convinced that life has no meaning then this might just save you. If on the other hand you are in God and a chIld of God then there is such a wealth of material, you would need to pray very seriously to the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus to reveal to you as much as you can possibly handle. The approach is very refreshing and to those who think that God and religion are synonymous, they should think again.
