I try to read bestsellers. I try to give the books a fair shot. This book was a hard one to get through. Based on a faulty premise and using bizarre logic this book has no real substance beyond that. I did laugh a few times so that's something. 0.6/5

2024 reads, #4. DID NOT FINISH. I came across this the other day in one of the Little Free Libraries in my neighborhood, and I thought I'd read it simply because I know it's a popular book that's influenced a lot of people, and I thought I'd see for myself why. Yep, it's pretty much what I expected, 334 pages of "YAY JESUS!!!", which as an atheist was something I could tolerate for only a little bit before reaching my fill. You're getting pretty much exactly what you were expecting beforehand when picking this up, so let that guide your decision whether or not to read it yourself.

Read this as a lent Study, combined with the delight of watching Ricky Babes deliver 6 weekly talks on DVD. If he had rung me up & tried to telesales me Jesus with his combination of poor argument & bombastic speech, I would have hung up after 2 minutes. (PS if your wondering - yes I am a Christian)

If you are going to read about being a Christian, then read the Bible. If you must spend money, then buy something useful or help the poor. i am surprised that he had not made a movie series out of it by now.

All of us tend to live our live searching for an over-arching purpose which would make sense to our lives. This book is a 40 day book which made a lot of difference to me. In the confusing world we live in, one of the main causes of worry is a lack of purpose and this book deals with that. This has been a book which will leave you with the task of creating a life purpose statement which will be your constant reference in life's storms.Rick Warren has used a lot of excellent metaphors and his writing skills leave a quick impact on you. I would definitely recommend this book.

This book offers a transformative journey to help readers discover their true selves and understand their purpose in life. Each day, it presents a small, insightful message along with scripture to memorize, helping me keep track of my path to finding my purpose. Some lessons are challenging, making me to face questions I’ve avoided for years.

I completed this journey with a sense of accomplishment and I would highly recommend this book as a comprehensive, helpful, and inspiring guide dealing with many of the issues Christians struggle with today. It served as a reminder of where my hope and purpose truly lie, realigning my perspective with Christ’s intentions. There's nothing more important than living according to God's plan.

This last year has easily been the most painful year of my life. I found myself angry at God and angry in general. I was mean, bitter, irritated, heartbroken, and sad all the time. I’d be driving home from work and bawl my eyes out while literally screaming and crying in emotional pain. Then, one day, not long ago, a book was randomly mentioned on TV and the title of the book stuck in my memory for some reason. I decided to look it up on Amazon, it had good reviews and was only a few bucks so I bought it. It sat on my desk for about a week but after one particularly rough day I brought the book outside with me, sat in the shade, and began to read. I had no idea what to expect but I felt my heart begin to change with each chapter. After a year full of anger, pain, and suffering this book was deliberately put into my life to point me in the right direction. I still have so much more work to do but this book showed me where to start. If any of this sounds like you maybe it can help you too.

Rick Warren writes on page 239, "Don't settle for just achieving 'the good life,' because the good life is not good enough. Ultimately it doesn't satisfy. You can have a lot to live on and nothing to live for. Aim instead for 'the better life'-serving God in a way that expresses your heart."

I had this book on my shelf for over ten years. A friend of mine said it helped him pull out of a life-slump, so I looked to see what was in it and realized it's set up as a 40 day devotional. I read it with that understanding, over 40 days, and found it to be motivating and inspiring. I hope you will too.

Actually, I didn’t finish. I tried. But I just couldn’t do it. I’m gonna just continue leading the purposeless life. I’m purpose free. So, save your money. Save your time. Let this turkey die a just death.

It's rare that I can't force myself to get through a non-fiction book, even if I don't care for it much, but I just couldn't finish this one. It's also the first book I ever placed in the recycling bin; I couldn't in good conscience pass it on to anyone else. There are some good nuggets, but sweeping statements like "every one is a creature of God, but only believers are children of God" made this book unreadable for me.
