Second read. It was a quick and simple read. The characters, while likeable, were also completely shallow, much like in the movie. This time around, I noticed that almost everything related to Lula’s mother and Johnny Farragut was entirely different from the movie. In fact, I believe the movie was more interesting in this regard. Santos is mentioned in the text, but he doesn't even make an appearance in the book as he does in the movie. It's quite fascinating to see the differences between the two mediums. The movie seems to have taken some liberties with the story, perhaps to make it more engaging for the audience. Overall, while the book was an easy read, the movie managed to bring certain elements to life in a more captivating way. It makes me wonder if the director had a different vision for the story and decided to deviate from the source material to achieve that. Either way, both the book and the movie have their own merits and it's interesting to compare and contrast the two.
