A book that I earnestly hope my son will read when he reaches the age of 18 is "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

This classic novel explores themes such as racial injustice, moral courage, and the loss of innocence. It presents a vivid portrayal of a small town in the American South during a time of great social change.

By reading this book, my son will be exposed to different perspectives and learn about the importance of empathy and understanding. He will witness the struggles and triumphs of the characters, and be inspired to stand up for what is right.

"To Kill a Mockingbird" is not only a powerful story but also a valuable lesson in life. It will encourage my son to think critically, question the status quo, and become a more compassionate and responsible individual.

I believe that this book has the potential to have a profound impact on my son's life and shape his character in a positive way.

I can't say that I fully grasped every single aspect of this book. It's not overly complex in terms of symbolism or allegory, but there are still some pages that are rather challenging to decipher.

The author seems to have hidden certain meanings within the text, making it necessary for the reader to really think and analyze in order to understand. This can be both frustrating and rewarding at the same time.

Despite the difficulties, I still found the book to be quite interesting and engaging. The story itself is captivating, and the characters are well-developed. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery or a thought-provoking read.

The book is a thought-provoking volume. However, it can be quite complex if one doesn't have the context of shamanism and the author's life. Shamanism is a rich and ancient practice that often involves spiritual connection and communication with the unseen world. Understanding the author's personal experiences within this context can provide valuable insights into the themes and ideas presented in the book.

Without this background knowledge, some of the concepts and references may seem晦涩难懂. It's like trying to solve a puzzle without all the pieces. The author may be drawing on their own shamanic experiences to explore deeper questions about human nature, consciousness, and the meaning of life.

To fully appreciate and understand the book, it would be beneficial to study shamanism and learn more about the author's life and journey. This would allow the reader to approach the text with a more informed perspective and gain a deeper understanding of its significance.

A kind of Castaneda taster.

This is a short sampler that consists of quotes collected from most of the author's works, along with brief commentaries.

It is fairly well established that Carlos Castaneda's body of work is fictional rather than documentary.

So what? This doesn't make his best work, which includes his first 4 or 5 books, any less meaningful. In later years, he seems to have followed the path of L. Ron Hubbard. Hubbard used the novelist's art, though not as profoundly, to establish the religion-system of Scientology.

His later "guru-transformational" material appears to me to be much more self-servingly cringe-worthy and derivative compared to his highly powerful commentaries on the varieties of perception of real world phenomena covered in his earlier work.

Carlos makes an attempt to bring together his previously disjointed and scattered narratives in this particular one.

However, it seems that this series has been a complete waste of time.

The lack of coherence and a clear overarching storyline in the previous installments has made it difficult for the audience to engage and invest in the series.

Despite Carlos' efforts to unify the narratives in this latest entry, it may be too little, too late.

The damage has already been done, and viewers are left feeling disappointed and let down.

Perhaps Carlos should have spent more time planning and structuring the series from the beginning to ensure a more seamless and engaging experience for the audience.

As it stands, this series will likely be remembered as a failed experiment rather than a successful piece of work.

I was introduced to Carlos Casteneda by a friend.

This particular book is a collection of quotes that emerged from Casteneda's experiences during his time spent with the Mexican Shamans.

They provided a unique perspective on life, nature, and the human condition.

Each quote seemed to carry a hidden wisdom that required careful reflection and consideration.

The language was simple yet powerful, making it accessible to readers from all walks of life.

Whether you are interested in spirituality, anthropology, or simply looking for a thought-provoking read, this book of quotes is definitely worth checking out.

It has the potential to open your mind and expand your understanding of the world around you.

I didn't like it.

It's my first Carlos Castaneda book and I've heard good things about him. Sadly, I can't agree.

Maybe I chose the wrong book to read from him. The book is full of quotes from his other books. I expected this was going to motivate me to read more about him, but it had the opposite effect.

It felt like the author was constantly referring to his other works instead of presenting new and engaging ideas in this particular book.

The excessive quoting made the reading experience feel disjointed and unoriginal.

I was hoping for a more immersive and thought-provoking exploration of his ideas, but instead, I was left with a sense of disappointment.

Perhaps I will give another one of his books a try in the future, but based on this experience, I'm not overly optimistic.

A brief introduction to shamanism is presented in this book.

Although the author includes comments for each "selection", they are made from within the shamanic perspective rather than an external, anthropological view of the subject.

This provides a unique and insider's look into the world of shamanism.

The author likely has a deep understanding and personal experience with shamanism, which is reflected in the comments.

Readers can expect to gain insights into the beliefs, practices, and significance of shamanism from a more intimate and authentic standpoint.

It offers a different approach compared to traditional anthropological studies that often analyze shamanism from an outsider's perspective.

Overall, this book serves as an interesting and valuable resource for those interested in exploring the mysteries and essence of shamanism.

This review, like many others, is simply a compilation of my random thoughts and musings that I deem relevant.

It is truly fascinating how closely the ideas of these Mexican native shamans resemble neo-platonist philosophy. The concept of the infinite grandeur of the eagle, which emanates awareness and time, is strikingly analogous to the neo-platonist hierarchy of 'the one', 'nous','soul', and the material world, with each level emanating onto a lower one. The emphasis on being nothing and shedding the self to become one with the infinite is also a crucial similarity between these two seemingly disparate perceptions of the divine and reality.

Don Juan was a master who didn't desire an apprentice or student but rather heirs to his knowledge. He believed that one cannot be burdened with importance when writing as it makes one heavy; instead, one needs to be as light as a warrior, for human beings are fibers of light.

Joy, pain, sadness, and struggle are all part of the human experience, and all men deserve them. This is the life of a warrior – not to seek is to seek death, and it is the only thing worthy of our limited time on earth.

The essence of a warrior lies in the delicate balance between the terror of being a man and the wonder of being a man. One must erase their routines, self-identity, and sense of self-importance. Although no one knows the ways to achieve these things before starting, there will be unknown aids that will assist in completing these tasks. The Warrior’s way is a sum of energetic facts in the universe.

Perhaps the most captivating idea I discovered in the book is this: while the ordinary man views life as a collection of blessings and curses, the warrior sees everything as a challenge.

Don Juan Matus's ideas in this book predominantly focus on the way of the warrior, including how to be a warrior and the warrior's practice and perception of time and reality. Some notable quotes about what a warrior is include: "the warrior is never under siege as a siege implies personal possessions that can be blockaded. The warrior has nothing in this world except his impeccability. Impeccability cannot be threatened." and "the first principle of the art of stalking is that the warrior chooses the location of the battleground. A warrior never goes into battle without knowing what the surroundings are."

These principles lead to three important things for warriors: learning to never take themselves seriously and laugh at themselves, having endless patience, and having an endless capacity to improvise. Only warriors can face time and change it as it advances on them. Their sole focus is on freedom, and to die and be eaten by the eagle is no challenge; rather, to snake around the eagle and be free is the ultimate audacity.

When warriors talk about time, they are not referring to the movement of a clock. Time is the essence of attention, and the eagle’s emanations are made of time. When a warrior enters into other aspects of the self, they are becoming acquainted with time. A warrior can no longer weep; their only expression of anguish is a shiver that originates from the very depths of the universe. The techniques of the warrior are there, but what is of utmost importance is the man using them and his desire to fully embrace them. Being a warrior is about vastness.

Quotations from the fire from within, inspired by Florinda Matus, also offer valuable insights. For example, "there is no completeness without sadness and longing, for without them, there is no sobriety, no kindness." and "self-importance is man’s greatest enemy, it weakens him, making him offended by the deeds and view of his fellow men. Self-importance requires one to spend most of his life offended by something or someone." These quotes highlight the importance of humility and the need to look beyond our emotions and perceptions.

In conclusion, Don Juan Matus's teachings offer a profound and thought-provoking perspective on the nature of the warrior and the human experience. His ideas challenge us to question our assumptions, break free from our limitations, and strive for a higher level of awareness and impeccability. Whether we choose to embrace the warrior's path or not, there is much to be learned from his wisdom and insights.

I have made it a personal tradition to revisit this book once a year. Each time I do, I am amazed at how much new wisdom and understanding I can glean from its pages.

The author's insights are truly thought-provoking, and they have had a profound impact on my own perspective and人生观.

Reading this book is like embarking on a journey of self-discovery and enlightenment, and I look forward to continuing this journey for many years to come.

Odd and egocentric, these are two words that can often describe a particular type of person.

An odd individual may have unusual habits, interests, or behaviors that set them apart from the norm. They might dress in a unique way, have strange hobbies, or express themselves in an idiosyncratic manner.

Egocentricity, on the other hand, refers to a person who is overly focused on themselves. They may think that their needs, wants, and opinions are more important than those of others. They might be self-centered, narcissistic, or have a tendency to dominate conversations and interactions.

While being odd and egocentric may not necessarily be negative traits, they can sometimes cause difficulties in social situations. People who are too odd may be seen as strange or unapproachable, while those who are too egocentric may have trouble building and maintaining healthy relationships.

However, it's important to remember that everyone is unique, and what may seem odd or egocentric to one person may be perfectly normal to another. We should strive to be accepting and understanding of others, regardless of their quirks or personality traits.
