Joe Gray is an extremely interesting character.

He has a charm and personality that can only be fully understood and appreciated by those who have a deep love for cats.

The way he behaves and the antics he gets up to are truly captivating.

Every moment spent reading about him is filled with amusement and excitement.

I found myself completely engrossed in his story and couldn't wait to turn the page to see what he would do next.

The author has done a wonderful job of bringing this character to life, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment to continue following Joe Gray's adventures.

His unique character traits and the humorous situations he finds himself in make for a truly enjoyable read.

I would highly recommend this story to anyone who loves a good laugh and a charming character to root for.

When All is Said and Done, a Good Read

My friend has been raving about Joe Grey, claiming that these are the best mysteries with cats at the center. I, being a fan of the “Cat Who” series, had never heard of Joe Grey before. But out of curiosity, I picked up the first book in the Joe Grey series to make a comparison between the two.

On my very first day of reading, I was hit with some rather challenging words like “peruse” and “aberration” in just one small paragraph. Now, having been raised by a father with a Ph.D., I was able to understand their meanings. However, I really don't see the need for such complex words in my mystery books. Fortunately, it seems that this was just a fluke because the rest of the book was written at a much lower reading level and flowed a whole lot better.

I absolutely loved the relationship between the two main cats, Joe Grey and Dulcie, his girlfriend. They were so cute together and really added to the story line. Their attempts to solve the murder were also highly enjoyable. As I mentioned earlier, overall it was a good read. Since I read on a daily basis, I'll probably give the other books in the series a try. But if I had to choose, I still much prefer the “Cat Who” series.

Such a darling book! I'm now four books into this series and they only get better. It's truly amazing how each installment manages to captivate me more than the last. I suspect that a good mystery lover could enjoy this book immensely, even if they aren't a crazy cat mom or dad. The engaging plot and well-developed characters are enough to draw anyone in.

BUT if you're a feline devotee, this series is an absolute must-read. The way the author incorporates cats into the story is both charming and endearing. It's like a dream come true for all us cat lovers out there. If you even vaguely enjoy the first one, you should definitely keep going.

And what better way to enjoy these books than with a pot of hot tea on a rainy Saturday? It's the perfect combination for a cozy and relaxing day. You can get lost in the world of the story and forget about all your worries. So, grab a copy of this series and start reading. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

That was definitely a "what did I just read?" experience.

It was truly a moment of confusion and wonder. I found myself scratching my head, trying to make sense of it all.

But was it necessarily in a bad way? I'm not so sure.

There was something about it that kept me intrigued, even though I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

I really just don't know what to do with this one.

Maybe it's a sign that I need to think deeper, or perhaps it's just a strange piece that defies categorization.

Either way, it's left an impression on me, and I'll likely be thinking about it for a while to come.

I guess only time will tell if this was a good or bad experience.

What a truly delightful little series I've fortuitously stumbled upon.

I chanced upon this book in a box of giveaways at my former workplace. The only reason I picked it up initially was because it had a charming cat on the front cover. Little did I know that I was in for a treat.

I was pleasantly surprised by its witty humor and the often deeply poignant depiction of the inner life of cats. It really made me see these furry creatures in a whole new light.

Sure, it does require a significant amount of suspension of disbelief, and the mystery wasn't overly complex. But as far as escapist reads go, I was more than fine with that. Because the emotional life of Joe Grey, the main feline character, made it all incredibly worth it.

I am now eagerly looking forward to devouring the rest of the series. It has been such a long time since I found myself smiling so much while reading.

And here's a thought: can Joe Grey and Dulcie come over to visit with my kitties? I'm absolutely sure they'd have a plethora of things to talk about. It would be a fascinating encounter between these fictional and real-life cats.

The story initially began in a rather intriguing manner, captivating my attention right from the start.

However, as it progressed, it took a rather unexpected turn and got a bit weird.

At first, I was a bit taken aback by this sudden change in direction. But then, I realized that perhaps this was just the nature of the piece.

It was not meant to be a serious or deeply profound work. Instead, it was simply a silly light read, something to enjoy for what it was.

So, I decided to embrace it and go with the flow.

I stopped trying to analyze or make sense of it too much and just allowed myself to be entertained by the strange and somewhat comical events that were unfolding.

In the end, I found that I had quite enjoyed the experience, despite its initial strangeness.

Sometimes, it's nice to just let go and have a bit of fun with a light-hearted story.

DNF page 83

I truly made an effort. I really did. However, this was an insipid and meaningless story where, even after reaching page 83, nothing of significance had occurred. Considering the book is 288 pages long, that is rather concerning.

I had numerous queries regarding the logic of the story. Why on earth would a murderer squander so much time in the pursuit of a cat, going to the extent of locating where the said cat resides? Why is a random individual so determined to eliminate Dulcie? And how do they manage to find out where the cats live?

Perhaps these questions might have been addressed if I had persevered with the book. But there are far superior stories available for me to invest my time in instead.

Do not recommend.

This book is scarier than the later Joe Grey books.

It sets up the interesting premise of Joe and Dulcie discovering that they can talk, and the story about how they feel about this newfound ability is quite plausible.

However, the character of Kate, the criminals' hoodwinked wife, who actually turns into a cat and becomes friends with Joe and Dulcie, is just too strange to be believable, even within the context of this story.

The crimes and the detectives' efforts to solve them are extremely complex and convoluted, which can be both a strength and a weakness.

I have enjoyed the other Joe Grey novels, but this one had a few too many danger scenes that were drawn out for too long, and some descriptions that were rather stomach-turning.

Overall, it's an okay read, but not as good as some of the others in the series.

This was my very first encounter with a "sentient cat whodunnit" story, and it was quite an experience.

It wasn't just cute in the traditional sense, considering there was a murder and grand theft auto involved. But still, "cute" seems to be the closest word I can come up with to describe it. So, there you have it: It was cute!

I really liked the pacing of the story by Murphy. The events unfolded smoothly and didn't dwell on any particular thought for too long. The mystery of "what on earth is happening with these cats-but-not" kept me engaged in what could have otherwise been a rather dry crime thriller novel.

The author did a great job of giving the cats a sense of humanity and little personality quirks. For example, Dulcie's love of finer things, which from the human perspective might seem like kleptomania. Watching Kate grow a backbone was also very rewarding. And her uncertainty about getting her husband arrested felt more realistic than if she had been simply flippant and vindictive after being a bit of a doormat in the early chapters. However, at times, I wished the cats hadn't been so knowledgeable about certain things. I could understand Joe's knowledge of cars to some extent if it was due to Clyde's personal interests and career, but his awareness of small details like what a VIN is, how to tell if a car is foreign or domestic, and his keen knowledge of different makes and models was a bit hard to swallow. (Okay, I know it's a book about magical cats, but still, I'm already suspending my disbelief about that, so don't push it.)

Overall, while I don't have a strong urge to read more of the series, I did enjoy this book well enough as a stand-alone. It definitely earns a solid 3 stars - cute!

This was a truly captivating mystery that held my attention from start to finish.

I particularly appreciated how the author was so faithful to cat behavior. The way the feline protagonist interacted with its surroundings, its curious nature, and its unpredictable actions added an extra layer of authenticity to the story.

It was as if the author had a deep understanding of the inner workings of a cat's mind and was able to bring that to life on the page.

The mystery itself was well-crafted, with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the very end.

The characters were also well-developed, each with their own unique personalities and motives.

Overall, this was a great read that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and a touch of feline charm.

I was eagerly anticipating Shirley Rousseau Murphy’s Cat on the Edge. I had certain expectations, thinking it might be a bit twee or overly cute. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was anything but. Instead, it presented a story that was plausible in a paranormal sort of way.

The main character, Joe Grey, a sentient tomcat, was truly endearing. His relationship with his scruffy owner, Clyde Damon, added an interesting dynamic to the plot. I found myself really loving these two characters and their adventures.

To my surprise, the book was also quite suspenseful. I became so engrossed that I read far too late into the night, desperate to discover the fate of Joe and Clyde, as well as the unusual Kate Osborne and Joe’s lady-love kitty, Dulcie. It’s a cozy mystery that manages to appeal even to those who don’t typically enjoy cozies. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging and unique read.

Here is a really cute story about Joe Grey, a charming tomcat. To his great dismay, he discovers that he has the ability to think and talk like a human! It's quite a shocking revelation for him. But then, he meets Dulcie, who also has the same amazing ability. Together, they embark on an exciting adventure. They find themselves helping the humans solve a mysterious murder. It's truly remarkable how these two feline friends use their unique skills to assist the humans. This series seems to have a lot of possibilities. It can be both cute and entertaining, while also not being too insulting to one's intelligence. It has the potential to capture the hearts of readers and keep them engaged with its charming characters and thrilling plot. :)
