After a prolonged hiatus from indulging in short stories, I unexpectedly found myself completely immersed and hopelessly addicted to Welty's idiosyncratic world.

This literary encounter truly got me ruminating about my dear grandmother, Kayaco. Even though she is not a southerner, she possesses a zest for life that is every bit as vibrant as that of a Welty character.

Her spirit and personality have always been an inspiration to me, much like the captivating characters that Welty brings to life on the page.
