The Hawkline Monster by Richard Brautigan.

Yes, more Brautigan! More glorious Brautigan!

This is yet another precious gem from the deadpan comic genius himself. At the moment, I simply can't get enough of his works. Each book seems like a little delight, exclusively for me.

This particular one is his 'gothic western', a crazy narrative that commences much like The Sisters Brothers, then traverses through the territory of Shirley Jackson, loiters around with Scooby Doo, and ultimately becomes something entirely unique.

It is utterly insane and utterly hilarious. The story takes the reader on a wild ride, filled with unexpected twists and turns. Brautigan's writing style is both engaging and entertaining, making it impossible to put the book down. Whether you're a fan of westerns, gothic literature, or just good old-fashioned comedy, The Hawkline Monster has something for everyone. So, if you're looking for a book that will make you laugh out loud and keep you on the edge of your seat, look no further than this wonderful creation by Richard Brautigan.

The story could be a primary school student's report (not that I find it negative, just to emphasize the simplicity of the language).

The small letters make it flow like a little stream and although it has some flaws, it's not dull. At least for me.

Also, in some descriptions, I laughed more than I should have.

From the books that sometimes don't make sense, you say to yourself "now why did I read this?" but easily you would read it again, having fun the same and other times.

This kind of writing has its own charm. It may not be perfect in terms of grammar or style, but it has a certain authenticity and simplicity that can attract readers. It shows the thoughts and feelings of the author in a straightforward way, without too much complication. Maybe that's why I like it. It reminds me of the innocence and simplicity of childhood, when everything was so new and interesting.

Even though there are some parts that may seem a bit strange or unclear, it doesn't matter. The overall impression is still positive. It makes me want to keep reading and discover more about the author's world. And that's what a good story should do, isn't it?

Where do you begin when it comes to a Western gothic novel? Well, it's likely Brautigan at his most surreal peak.

The story is even more unusual than typical as it revolves around a pair of sisters. These sisters hire two gunslingers to get rid of a monster that dwells in the basement of their house. The house has been constructed over ice caves, which adds an extra layer of mystery. What makes it even stranger is that they believe the monster has killed their father, who was a scientist working on a formula that could potentially benefit the entire world.

Are you confused? Actually, not really. It does unfold in the style of a Western novel, with the good guys pitted against the bad guys. Surprisingly, it's an easy enough story to follow. The characters are interesting and captivating. I truly relished it.

This Western gothic novel offers a unique blend of elements that draw the reader in and keep them engaged from start to finish. It's a must-read for those who enjoy something a little different and unexpected in their literary adventures.
