Perhaps this installment is not quite as flawless as the absolute best segments of the series. However, it comes remarkably close. The performance of Jonathan Cecil in the roles of Bertie and Jeeves is truly a delight to listen to.

His portrayal brings these beloved characters to life in a way that is both engaging and entertaining. The chemistry between the two characters is palpable, and Cecil's ability to switch between their distinct personalities with ease is truly impressive.

Whether it's Bertie's bumbling charm or Jeeves' calm and collected wisdom, Cecil captures every nuance perfectly. It makes for a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience that keeps you coming back for more.

Overall, while it may not reach the pinnacle of the series, it is still a highly enjoyable and值得欣赏的entry that fans of the franchise are sure to love.

I truly relished this author who was recommended to me by my friends decades ago. His/her sense of humor is remarkable, making the reading experience an absolute delight.

It's such a pleasant read that I am determined to explore a few more of his/her works whenever I get the opportunity. The writing is excellent, although it might not be a perfect 5-star, it's definitely getting closer.

Perhaps one of the other books in the series will be so hilarious that it will have me rolling on the floor with laughter. I can't wait to find out and continue this literary journey with this talented author.

I'm confident that with each new book, I'll discover more of the author's unique charm and be entertained to the fullest.

It's not often that you come across an author who can make you laugh out loud and keep you engaged from start to finish, and this one is definitely a keeper.

So, here's to many more wonderful reads from this amazing author!

Funny, but I really need Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry to read this to me. Their voices are so distinct and charming. Hugh Laurie has that wonderful British accent that can bring any text to life with his unique intonation and expressiveness. And Stephen Fry, with his deep and authoritative voice, adds a touch of class and sophistication. Just imagining them taking turns reading this would be an absolute delight. I can picture Hugh Laurie injecting humor and playfulness into the words, while Stephen Fry would bring a sense of gravitas and wisdom. It would be like a performance, a literary extravaganza. Their combined talents would make this reading experience truly unforgettable. I can only hope that one day, somehow, this dream of mine comes true and I get to hear them read this to me.

The problem with listening to the audio is that you can't go back and re-read the funny lines - or read them to your spouse.

This can be quite a drawback, as sometimes those hilarious lines are what make the experience truly memorable. When you're listening to audio, it's a one-time-only deal. You might be so engrossed in the story or the content that you miss a particularly witty or amusing line. And then, when you want to share that moment of laughter with your significant other, you can't simply flip back a page and read it to them.

It's a shame because being able to re-read those funny lines allows you to fully appreciate the humor and share it with others. It adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the whole experience. Maybe in the future, audio platforms will find a way to address this issue and give listeners the option to go back and re-read those precious lines. Until then, we'll just have to do our best to remember the funny parts and hope that we can recall them accurately when sharing with others.

So much fun!

Dinner is typically the meal during which one can witness Bertram at his finest, and without a doubt, it is the meal that I always relish the most.

Many of my most joyous hours have been spent in the company of the delicious soup, the succulent fish, the savory pheasant or whatever else might grace the table, the light and fluffy souffle, the fresh fruits in their respective seasons, and the small glass of port to cap it all off.

These elements seem to bring out the best in me.

"Wooster," those who are acquainted with me have on occasion remarked, "might be a complete write-off during the daytime, but once the world is plunged into darkness, the soft lights are switched on, the champagne is uncorked, and a sumptuous dinner is placed in front of him, you'll be astounded."

As this perceptive review reveals, I find myself in a state of hunger.

Read WODEHOUSE!

This is the third of the four Totleigh Towers related stories featuring Bertie and Jeeves. If you adored Code of the Woosters as much as I did, I highly recommend that you read these in sequence! I understand, you might think, of course that makes sense. However, with most of the Jeeves novels, it doesn't seem to matter where you start reading them, and to be honest, it doesn't matter too much. The Totleigh Towers stories are loosely connected. I read them in the order of 1, 2, 4, and 3. And now I can't recall what happened in story 4 at all!

This is all with the proviso that all of the Jeeves books are more or less the same story. But it never grows tiresome! Each book is filled with the hilarious antics and misadventures of Bertie and the ever-capable Jeeves. The witty dialogue and absurd situations keep readers entertained from beginning to end. Whether it's Bertie getting himself into a pickle or Jeeves coming up with a clever solution, there's always something to enjoy in these charming tales. So, if you're looking for some light-hearted and humorous reading, be sure to pick up a Wodehouse novel and let the fun begin!

In Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves, we witness Wodehouse in his prime form, despite penning it towards the end of his life, well past the ripe old age of eighty. This makes it all the more delightfully tongue-in-cheek, if that's the appropriate expression. The novel concludes with a rather amusing comment about the butler, Mr. Butterfield. Apparently, he is courting a widowed lady in the village, a situation that astonishes Wooster.

As the exchange goes, Wooster exclaims,
"'But surely he was a hundred and four last birthday?'
to which Jeeves replies,
"'He is well stricken in years, sir, but nevertheless—'
Wooster then quips,
"'There's life in the old dog yet?'
and Jeeves simply responds,
"'Precisely, sir.'"
(220). This final exchange adds a touch of humor and lightness to the end of the story, leaving the reader with a smile on their face.

A friend who is an extremely passionate reader frequently engages in debates with me. He loves re-reading books and claims that he constantly discovers new layers and meanings each time. However, my counter-argument is that the authors of fiction often repeat their plots and themes. Therefore, picking up a new book offers the best of both worlds.

This particular book reminded me of "The Code of the Woosters." At times, it even felt like I was re-reading it, but I didn't mind. "The Code" is, in my opinion, the best Wodehouse novel among the dozen that I have read so far. And this one was also among the better ones.

I enjoy exploring new stories and characters, but there is also something comforting about re-reading a favorite. It's like visiting an old friend and rediscovering the things that made you love them in the first place.

In conclusion, while my friend may prefer the familiarity of re-reading, I will continue to seek out new books and expand my literary horizons.

I find it extremely enjoyable to reread. Rereading allows me to discover new details and perspectives that I might have missed during the first reading. It's like uncovering hidden treasures within the pages of a book. Each time I pick up a favorite, it's as if I'm embarking on a new adventure, even though I already know the story. The familiar characters and plotlines feel like old friends, and I look forward to spending time with them again. Rereading also helps me to deepen my understanding of the themes and messages in the book. I can analyze the writing style, the author's choices, and the overall structure more closely. It's a great way to improve my own writing skills and gain inspiration. Whether it's a classic novel, a thrilling mystery, or a heartwarming romance, rereading always brings me a sense of joy and satisfaction.

A linguistic delight that will make you laugh aloud. It's truly a gem of a book that offers a unique and entertaining reading experience. The way the words are crafted and the stories are told is simply captivating.

However, there is one caveat. The first approximately 25 pages can be a bit slow-paced. It might take a little patience to get through this initial part. But don't let that deter you!

Because once you pass those first few pages, the rest of the book more than makes up for it. It explodes with humor, wit, and engaging narratives that will keep you hooked until the very end. You'll find yourself chuckling, giggling, and maybe even laughing out loud at the clever turns of phrase and the hilarious situations presented in the book.

So, if you're looking for a book that combines linguistic charm with humor, this is definitely one to add to your reading list. Just be prepared to power through those first few pages and then get ready to be thoroughly entertained.

I have been an avid reader of the Bertie & Jeeves books ever since I was growing up. In fact, I have read almost all of them, and over the years, many of these wonderful stories have found their way back into my hands for a reread.

Now, a new chapter has opened in my enjoyment of these classics as I have discovered them in the form of audiobooks! And let me tell you, it has been a truly delightful experience.

The narration by Jonathan Cecil is nothing short of amazing. He has the remarkable ability to bring the characters to life in the most vivid and believable way. In particular, he manages to make Bertie Wooster, the beloved protagonist, come alive on the audio stage.

Making Bertie believable is no easy feat, as it might seem. But Cecil gets it just right. He gives Bertie precisely the right amount of imbecility, and it is of the perfect type that endears him to the readers (or listeners, in this case) even more.

I would highly recommend this edition of the Bertie & Jeeves audiobooks to anyone who loves a good laugh and a charming story. Jonathan Cecil's narration truly enhances the experience and makes it one that you won't soon forget.

So, if you're looking for a new way to enjoy these classic tales, give this audiobook edition a try. You won't be disappointed!

I had been really eager to obtain a high-quality reading of this particular book by my most beloved and regular performer, Jonathan Cecil. However, despite my best efforts, I was unable to do so.

As a result, I decided to go for this 1980 - 1981 BBC Radio dramatisation. It featured the talented Michael Hordern and Richard Briers, along with a full cast.

To my great surprise and delight, it turned out to be an absolute treat! The way the story was brought to life through the voices and acting of the cast was truly remarkable. Each character was vividly portrayed, and the overall atmosphere and mood of the book were captured beautifully.

I found myself completely immersed in the story, and before I knew it, the dramatisation had come to an end. I would highly recommend this BBC Radio dramatisation to anyone who loves a good story and great acting.
