Honestly, this is just gorgeous. It offers a lovely peek inside the monotonous yet wondrous world of raising a human. As I am currently pregnant and eagerly looking forward to having my first baby, I truly loved this. I feel that it was not only fascinating and entertaining but also, quite honestly, extremely helpful in giving me an idea of what the next year of my life is going to be like. It has made me so intrigued that I now want to read everything that Lamott has ever written! The details and the insights provided in this piece are truly remarkable. It makes me realize that raising a child is not just about the daily routine but also about the beautiful and unexpected moments that come along the way. I can't wait to embark on this journey and see how it all unfolds.

A little too much religion for me, but I love Anne's writing. Her words have a certain charm that draws me in and makes me eager to explore more. I really enjoyed reading about her experience. It was like taking a journey through her life, seeing the world from her perspective. Even though the religious aspect was a bit overwhelming at times, it also added depth and complexity to her story. Anne's ability to express her thoughts and feelings so vividly is truly remarkable. It made me think about my own beliefs and values, and how they shape my experiences. Overall, it was a great read, and I look forward to reading more of Anne's work in the future.

A friend of mine gave me a copy of this book while I was pregnant. Little did he know what a huge favor he was truly doing for me.

Anne Lamott has the courage to write down all the gritty details of the thoughts that cross the minds of any sleep-deprived parent. These are thoughts that we are often too afraid to admit, sometimes not even to ourselves.

I had already read about how Anne Lamott, this crazy lady as she describes herself, wondered if she could leave her baby out in the cold to see if the whole "survival of the fittest" concept would play out. After that, when I myself hadn't slept in weeks and found myself daydreaming about similar psychotic scenarios, I was far more understanding of my own thoughts. Sleep deprivation is indeed a real nightmare, and a screaming baby who depends on you for everything can be extremely grating on your nerves. Knowing that there are other parents who have these crazy thoughts but don't actually act on them can make a world of difference in how new parents cope with the stress.

The birth of your child also marks the end of the life you once knew. It may have some similarities, but it will never be the same. Anne Lamott beautifully shows us that we don't have to handle it gracefully. We can go through it kicking and screaming as well. Her honesty is truly a blessing to all of us new parents.

I forget sometimes how truly remarkable Anne Lamott is.

Then, out of the blue, I come across something she has written, and it's as if I am jolted into remembering her genius.

I find myself stopping every few pages, completely awestruck, thinking "wow, that is the most exquisitely understated yet incredibly evocative phrasing I have ever encountered."

Moreover, the way she writes about dealing with a new baby boy is particularly relevant to me at this moment in time.

It's as if her words speak directly to my own experiences and emotions.

Her ability to capture the essence of such a precious and chaotic time is truly a gift.

I am once again reminded of why Anne Lamott is one of my favorite authors, and I look forward to delving deeper into her work and being inspired by her beautiful prose.

Well, that was truly devastating.

It is such a deeply human book, filled with relatable characters and situations that touch the core of our being. What makes it even more remarkable is its ability to be quite funny at times, adding a lighthearted touch to the otherwise serious themes.

Despite the humor, however, the book still manages to pack an emotional punch that leaves the reader feeling a range of emotions. It makes us laugh, cry, and everything in between, as we become fully invested in the lives of the characters.

Overall, it is a book that will stay with you long after you have finished reading it, leaving a lasting impression on your heart and mind.

Someone recommended I read this book. At first, I was quite curious and thought it might be an interesting read. However, after starting to read it, I quickly realized that it was not what I expected. The story was dull and unengaging, and the characters lacked depth. I found myself constantly losing interest and having to force myself to continue reading.

As a result, I would highly recommend that no one else waste their time on this book. There are so many other great books out there that are much more worth reading. Lol. It's a shame that this one didn't live up to my expectations, but such is the case with some books.

A Gorgeous Mess of Relatability

And yes, I read it while pregnant, and it paired well! This simple yet profound statement holds a world of meaning. It implies that there is a certain charm and connection in the chaos and messiness of life. The idea of a "gorgeous mess" suggests that even in the midst of disorder and complexity, there is beauty to be found. Reading while pregnant adds another layer of significance. It could be that the book provided a source of comfort, entertainment, or inspiration during this special time. The fact that it "paired well" indicates a harmonious combination, perhaps like a perfect match of flavors or a complementary set of colors. It makes one wonder what this particular piece of literature was and how it managed to resonate so deeply with the pregnant reader. Overall, this brief description leaves us with a sense of curiosity and a desire to explore the concept of relatability and the power of literature in more detail.

I've loved Anne Lamott ever since I read "Bird by Bird".

This book, in a way, is like catching up with her life as an unexpected mother.

Now, she has become a grandmother, and this is chronicled in another book.

She is truly a delight to read. Her writing style is engaging and full of humor.

However, sometimes the self-deprecation can be a bit overwhelming.

She is like the girl you were friends with in middle school and high school.

You remember her vividly, her quirks and all.

Reading her books feels like having a conversation with that old friend, sharing in her joys and sorrows.

It's a unique experience that keeps drawing me back to her work.

I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us in the future.

Just finished this one this morning.

This was the kind of book that I resisted initially. Everyone else kept telling me to read it, which made me a bit reluctant. Also, since I'm writing a lot, I was afraid that I'd start writing like Lamott, and lo and behold, I think I am to some extent.

Anyhow, having said that, I'm glad I've read it. The end is extremely sad, and it's even sadder because it's based on true events. Reading it also made me fulfill that promise to myself that I'd think about my own new motherhood and think: "At least I'm not Anne Lamott."

I was going to give the book three stars instead of four. I felt like her drug and alcohol addiction overshadowed the rest of the text. However, I then realized two things.

1.) The other night during a mental breakdown, the only person I had any desire to talk to was Anne Lamott, as if we were friends.

2.) The ending was so powerful that she truly deserves some kudos for it.

Oh, and one more thing. Twice while reading the book and breastfeeding (book n' boobing), I laughed so hard that Silas thought I was crazy!

Okay, that's it for now.

Therapeutic for all moms just trying to make it through the first year.

It truly made me feel less alone during that challenging time. The author's ability to make light of the absurdity of new babies and all their demands was both refreshing and hilarious.

I was especially drawn to her rawness. She had the courage to say the things that I had thought but would never have dreamed of putting on paper. And I'm SO glad she did!

This book has been a game-changer for me. It helped me to own my story with my daughter and begin the process of healing from it.

It's not just a book; it's a companion for every mom who is navigating the joys and struggles of motherhood.

I would highly recommend it to any new mom out there.

You'll find comfort, laughter, and a new perspective on this beautiful yet chaotic journey.

Don't miss out on this amazing resource.

This book truly saved my life twenty years ago.

At that time, I had a very difficult baby, and I was at a loss as to what to do.

I was in a state of great stress and confusion.

But then I discovered Anne Lamott's work.

I love her writing style and her honesty.

Reading her words made me feel that if she could overcome her difficulties and succeed, then so could I.

Her stories gave me hope and inspiration.

They made me believe that I could also find a way to deal with my difficult situation.

Thanks to this book, I was able to find the strength and courage within myself to face the challenges of raising a difficult baby.

It was a life-changing experience for me, and I will always be grateful to Anne Lamott for her wonderful work.
