This popular author, Joyce Carol Oates, really takes a significant sidestep from her regular plots. In this particular work, she vividly describes the swindling life of Abraham Licht.

As Licht moves across 19th century America, he engages in a plethora of scams. His journey is filled with deception and trickery, as he constantly devises new ways to swindle those around him.

This departure from Oates' typical writing style is truly remarkable. It showcases her versatility as a writer, as she delves into the seedy underbelly of 19th century American society.

Readers will be captivated by the vivid descriptions and the complex character of Abraham Licht. Oates' ability to bring this world to life is truly a testament to her talent as a writer.

Overall, this work is a must-read for fans of Oates and anyone interested in exploring the darker side of American history.

It may be too soon to say, but I truly believe I am falling deeply in love with Joyce Carol Oates' books.

As I am engrossed in reading them, I find myself in a state of confusion, not always able to clearly determine whether I love them or hate them.

The books I have read possess a certain allure that is both dark and American, tragic yet beautiful.

It's as if all of our best and worst qualities are laid bare, on full display.

Oates holds up a mirror to the American psyche, and at times, what is reflected can be excruciatingly painful.

Despite the heartbreak, there is also a strange beauty that keeps me captivated.

I often find myself impatiently waiting for the next book in my queue, eager to continue exploring the complex and fascinating world that Oates has created.

Her writing has a profound impact on me, making me question my own beliefs and values, and forcing me to confront the harsh realities of life.

I can't wait to see what other masterpieces she has in store for us.

I am currently on a JCO kick, and it seems this enthusiasm may endure for a long time.

Years ago, when I was in a phase of being passionate about Thomas Wolfe, I made a similar observation. When you read him or her, you feel as if there's no need to read anything else because they will ultimately write about everything.

JCO accomplishes this in this particular book. She delves into nearly every contemporary topic that one should be deeply concerned about in order to contribute to the progress of our society.

Just like me, you should read her works and learn from them. As you read, you'll discover the breadth and depth of her exploration, which can offer valuable insights and perspectives on the various issues that shape our world today.

So, pick up a JCO book and embark on this enlightening journey of discovery and learning.

This might be one of my absolute favorites from her.

It's a period piece that delves into the world of a family of con artists. The very idea of it immediately grabs my attention.

I can just imagine the elaborate schemes they come up with, the secrets they keep, and the complex web of lies they weave.

The setting of a bygone era adds an extra layer of charm and mystery.

I'm eager to explore the characters and their motives, to see how they navigate through the dangerous and thrilling world of cons.

It's a story that promises to be filled with twists and turns, keeping me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

I have a feeling that this will be a truly captivating and unforgettable read.

This is one of Oates' more illustrious novels.

It is a work that I would highly recommend to a newcomer who is eager to explore her literary works and the diverse worlds she creates.

The novel delves deep into various themes such as con artistry, family dynamics, and race relations, spanning from England in the late 1800s to the Mid-Atlantic Region and finally to Harlem in the 1920s.

The prose is brilliant, filled with vivid descriptions and powerful imagery that makes it not only a pleasure to read but also very quotable.

Once I started reading this book, I simply couldn't put it down. It has the ability to draw the reader in and make them completely lose themselves in its pages.

It offers a rich and immersive experience, allowing the reader to gain a deeper understanding of the complex social and cultural issues of the time period.

Overall, it is a remarkable novel that showcases Oates' literary prowess and her ability to create a captivating and thought-provoking story.

As with many of Ms. Oates' novels, this was a lengthy family saga.

It told the story of a family of American shysters who played The Game to survive.

I have a great love for Ms. Oates' novels because they often depict family situations that are outside the box of what is considered "normal".

Written in the late 90's, the political atmosphere of the 1920's, as Ms. Oates writes, bears a distinct and disturbing sameness to today in terms of the rampant political corruption both then and now.

Moreover, past president Harding shares a real and frightening sameness of personality with our current president.

This novel is a fascinating read that not only explores the dynamics of a dysfunctional family but also offers insights into the political and social climate of a bygone era that still has relevance today.

It is truly interesting to gain more in-depth understanding and insights in a particular case. However, the way it is presented or written might be rather poor. This could potentially hinder the full appreciation and utilization of the valuable information that could be derived from it.

Perhaps the language used is not clear enough, or the organization of the content lacks coherence and logical flow. As a result, readers may find it difficult to follow the train of thought and extract the key points.

Nevertheless, despite the drawback of being poorly written, there is still potential value in delving deeper into the case. With some effort and careful analysis, one might be able to uncover hidden gems of knowledge and understanding that could prove to be beneficial in various aspects.

I just completed this recently.

It was one of those books that demanded a year of my reading time as I repeatedly put it down and then picked it up again.

The story is truly remarkable. It features a turn-of-the-century American family of confidence tricksters, both men and women, who conceive of various bold and audacious schemes.

Their aim is not simply to amass wealth but rather to demonstrate their proficiency in "The Game."

The book has its moments of hilarity and cynicism, yet it is also deeply emotional and略带忧伤.

My sole criticism is that Oates's writing style here is somewhat convoluted and tiresome.

It makes unexpected turns and jolts, and then embarks on digressions that can sometimes make it difficult to follow.

Moreover, it is quite lengthy.

However, it is worthwhile if you desire to immerse yourself in a book for an extended period.

This was the very first Joyce Carol Oates book that I had the pleasure of reading.

It has since become one of my absolute favorite books of all time. However, it seems that this particular work is a departure from Oates' typical style.

After finishing this book, I was intrigued and picked up several other Oates books. To my disappointment, I didn't find myself liking any of them.

So, perhaps this book isn't the best choice for die-hard fans of Oates who are accustomed to her usual writing. But if you've never delved into any of her works before, this could be a great introduction.

It offers a unique perspective and showcases Oates' talent in a different light.

Overall, while it may not be for everyone, it holds a special place in my heart.

Kind of felt like Bellefleur.

In the atmosphere, there was a certain charm and mystery that reminded one of that fictional place. The air seemed to hold a hint of magic, as if it could transport you to another world.

The soft lighting, the gentle music, and the warm colors all contributed to this enchanting ambiance. It was as if time had slowed down, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the moment.

People milled about, chatting and laughing, adding to the lively yet peaceful atmosphere. You could sense the connection between them, as if they were all part of something special.

Whether it was the delicious food, the friendly staff, or just the overall feeling of being in this place, it truly felt like Bellefleur, a place where dreams could come true and memories could be made.

I always seem to forget just how challenging her books can be to read.

The plot, without a doubt, was extremely interesting. It had me completely hooked from the very beginning, and I was eagerly anticipating finding out how it would all unfold.

However, the process of actually working through the book took an awfully long time. The language was complex, and there were many intricate details that required careful attention.

I found myself having to reread certain passages multiple times in order to fully understand what was happening.

Despite the difficulties, I was determined to finish the book and discover the ending.

In the end, it was a rewarding experience, but it definitely required a lot of patience and perseverance on my part.
