We read a scene from this in writing class and it was truly hilarious.

So, I made up my mind to borrow the play from my good friend Lauren.

Regrettably, when I brought it home and delved into the rest of the play, it wasn't even close to being as funny as that initial scene.

It was at this juncture that I came to the realization that Mamet is not enjoyable to read, but rather a delight to watch or listen to.

The characters in this play were such exaggerated caricatures of themselves that I simply couldn't empathize with any of them.

On the Mamet language scale, this play rates approximately an 8.

This is because most of the arguments commence as trivial matters and then rapidly spiral into racism, with an abundance of f-bombs thrown in for good measure.

I can envision the humorous moments, but they simply didn't translate when I was merely reading them from the page.

Perhaps seeing the play performed live or hearing it spoken aloud would bring out the true essence of its comedic value.

Until then, I'll have to content myself with the knowledge that Mamet's works are better experienced in other forms.

Although it has been widely recognized that the best drama is more completely realized on the stage rather than on the page, Mamet's plays strongly reaffirm this point.

Driven by his characteristic stylized dialogue, Romance is undoubtedly more captivating and uproariously funny when performed live.

This farcical, fast-paced, and thought-provoking play targets numerous common taboos and prejudices, such as religion, homosexuality, the Middle East peace process, domestic relationships, and the concept of justice.

Moments of pure absurdity, irrational characters, and an abundance of profanity give Romance its distinctively Mametian charm.

Certainly, it is not for the puritanical or humorless.

It offers a unique and unfiltered look at various aspects of society, challenging the audience's preconceived notions and making them question the status quo.

The live performance brings the play to life, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in the chaos and comedy that unfolds on stage.

Overall, Romance is a prime example of Mamet's ability to create engaging and thought-provoking drama that is best experienced in a live theatrical setting.

David Mamet is a renowned playwright who has penned several outstanding plays. I have a penchant for farcical theatre, with the works of Dario Fo being among my favorites. However, this particular chaotic courtroom social satire that delves into the nature of hate, such as Jews opposing gentiles and straights opposing gays, left me with a sense of misalignment. It felt as if one was attempting to force square pegs into round holes. In my opinion, Mamet and farce simply did not seem to be a harmonious combination, at least based on this play. There were one or two moments that elicited laughter on behalf of the Judge, but overall, it appeared to be a lackluster effort,充斥着 subpar dialogue.

It failed to engage me on a deeper level and left me disappointed. I had expected more from Mamet, especially considering his reputation. Perhaps he should have explored a different genre or approached this subject matter in a more nuanced way.

Nevertheless, it is important to note that everyone's perception of a play can vary, and there may be others who found this work to be more enjoyable and thought-provoking.

I don't mind offensive humor, but it has to be, you know... funny. Maybe it's better onstage?

Some people might think that any kind of humor is acceptable as long as it gets a laugh. However, I believe that there is a fine line between being offensive and being truly funny. Offensive humor that crosses that line can cause harm and discomfort to others.

Onstage, perhaps, the rules are a bit different. Comedians can push the boundaries and take risks with their material. But even then, they should be aware of the potential impact of their words. It's important to find that balance between being edgy and being respectful.

In the end, humor is a subjective thing. What one person finds hilarious, another might find offensive. But as long as we are all mindful of how our words affect others, we can enjoy a good laugh without causing unnecessary hurt.

I have a penchant for a good farce. However, Mamet, as is often the case, relies overly not only on stereotypes but also on name-calling, instead of focusing on character development.

This could have potentially been a lovely piece if it hadn't taken that turn. The core story of "Bunny" wasn't inherently bad or overly restricted by stereotypes.

It had the potential to be a charming and engaging narrative. But unfortunately, Mamet's choices in how to present the story detracted from its overall quality.

Relying on cheap tricks like name-calling and relying too much on stereotypes can make a story feel lazy and unoriginal.

If only Mamet had put more effort into developing the characters in a more meaningful and nuanced way, the result might have been a truly great work.

Mamet's play that I have ever read is truly the most awkward one.

However, the religious satire it contains is so delicious that it is impossible to simply cast it aside.

The way he presents the religious themes and pokes fun at some of the absurdities within the religious context is both thought-provoking and entertaining.

Although the overall structure and perhaps some of the dialogues might seem a bit off-kilter, the underlying message and the satirical elements make it a work that demands attention.

It forces the reader to question their own beliefs and the way religion is often portrayed and practiced in society.

Despite its awkwardness, there is a certain charm and depth to this play that makes it worthy of exploration and analysis.

It challenges the reader to look beyond the surface and discover the hidden gems of satire and social commentary within.

In conclusion, while Mamet's play may be awkward, its religious satire is a captivating and engaging aspect that cannot be ignored.

An interesting premise forms the basis for this farce. We are presented with a trial, yet initially, we have no understanding of its purpose.

Instead of the typical twists and turns, what we get are elaborate details that emerge sporadically and farcical characters that add to the chaos. There are definitely some cracking lines of dialogue that had me in stitches. It is very much in line with Mamet's witty style of speaking. The good use of repetition for humour is also quite effective.

It sort of reminds me of Anthony Neilson's Dissocia. At times, it is very funny, but it can also feel like it might be slightly less than the sum of its parts. Don't misunderstand me, I love Dissocia, but, similar to this play, it can seem like it is aiming for a certain tone rather than a satisfyingly cohesive structure at times.

Nevertheless, this play is worth reading if you are a fan of Mamet or farce. It would undoubtedly be entertaining to watch, but I don't think anyone would label it as a favourite.

A courtroom farce so over-the-top and offensive that it just didn't strike me as funny. It was a rather strange and unappealing spectacle.

Perhaps the key lies in seeing it performed live. Maybe then, the nuances and energy on stage could bring out a different side of it. However, as it stands, it failed to engage my sense of humor.

Mamet has shown his true talent and creativity in many other works. He is capable of crafting brilliant and thought-provoking pieces. This particular courtroom farce, unfortunately, does not measure up to his usual standards.

It seems that there are elements that are just too exaggerated and inappropriate, detracting from any potential comedic value. One can only hope that Mamet will return to form and produce something more in line with his reputation as a great playwright.

Too silly for words! I have come up with a rather unique plan. I am going to purchase a large quantity of these items. Then, I will carefully select the safe areas within the local universities and leave them there. I can just imagine the expressions on people's faces when they discover these mysterious things in unexpected places. It might bring a bit of confusion, but also a touch of excitement. Maybe some will wonder who did this and what the purpose could be. I don't really have a specific reason for doing this, other than the fact that it seems like a fun and slightly crazy idea. Who knows what kind of reactions it will引发?

I laughed a couple of times during the play. However, overall, it just didn't have that special something that could really engage me.

The story seemed to lack depth and the characters didn't feel fully developed. I found myself losing interest easily and constantly looking at the time.

The acting was okay, but it wasn't outstanding enough to make up for the shortcomings of the script. The set design was also rather平淡, not adding much to the overall atmosphere of the play.

In conclusion, although there were a few moments that made me chuckle, this play failed to leave a lasting impression on me. It simply didn't meet my expectations and I don't think I would recommend it to others.

Funny indeed. Here we have one of my favorite playwrights, Mamet, delving into one of my least favorite genres, farce. It's quite an interesting combination. In this play, there is no shortage of commentary. Interestingly, it focuses on the protocols related to the Mid-East peace process, which acts as a sort of backdrop for the courtroom proceedings. It gives the play an added layer of depth and context. However, connecting the title to the play requires a bit of effort. It's not immediately obvious how they are related. But as one delves deeper into the play, the connections start to emerge. It's like solving a puzzle, and it makes the whole experience of reading or watching the play more engaging and thought-provoking.
