This is a good introduction to the basics of music theory. However, the amount of material it covers is extremely vast. As a result, it lacks a very serious treatment of any particular aspect. That being said, the text is written in a quite clear manner. It could potentially be an excellent starting point for those who wish to dive into concepts that could require many, many books to fully explore. I also haven't attempted the ear training course. Nevertheless, the fact that the book includes this as a CD appears to be a useful addition. It might provide valuable practical exercises to enhance one's musical perception and understanding. Overall, despite its limitations in-depth coverage, this book can still serve as a valuable resource for beginners in music theory. It offers a solid foundation and a starting point for further exploration and study. With the inclusion of the ear training CD, it provides an additional dimension to the learning experience.
