I had read and greatly enjoyed the first four plays back (the Glencairn series) during my college days. In fact, I even used a portion of one as an audition monologue for a play in college. Those four plays truly remain worthy reads.

All seven plays, of course, are naturally a bit uneven. This is understandable as they were written so early in O'Neill's career. Perhaps the characters and storylines were a bit broadly and shallowly sketched. The language, too, can sometimes seem a bit forced and unauthentic. However, we must remember that all these plays were written roughly 100 years ago, so this can be overlooked to some extent.

The final play, "The Rope", touches on more of the themes that will later appear in O'Neill's more famous works. It's a bit of a stretch to call it a play "of the sea" like the others. Nevertheless, it successfully leaves the reader with lingering thoughts about the complicated relationship between father and son. This complex theme adds depth and interest to the play, making it a memorable conclusion to the collection.

The thief does not stop until he steals from him.

This simple sentence holds a profound truth. It implies that the nature of a thief is such that he is constantly driven by his贪婪 (greed) to take what belongs to others.

The thief shows no mercy or restraint, as if he is on a never-ending quest to satisfy his own desires at the expense of others.

This behavior not only causes harm to the victim but also disrupts the social order and trust within a community.

We should be vigilant and take measures to protect ourselves and our property from such thieves.

At the same time, society should also work towards reducing the root causes of theft, such as poverty and inequality, to create a more just and harmonious environment.

Only then can we hope to break the cycle of theft and ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.

In the beginning of this text, it discusses Joe, the owner of the inn, and the man who works with him and brings the sailors from the port to spend the night in his inn. The two discuss what will happen with the arriving sailors and their theft. Indeed, the sailors who have taken their wages come to the inn. One of them protests that he has been stolen from before in this inn, but he ignores it and stays to drink and get drunk.

Everyone drinks except one of the sailors, who encounters "Frieda" and sits with her and talks to her about his life. After a while, he tells her about his family that he hasn't seen in 10 years and that he used to write a lot to them and promise them that he would return every time, but he never does because he drinks a glass of wine and then a lot more until he gets drunk and spends all his money on wine and goes back to the sea again!

The sailors get drunk because of "Frieda" and steal his money and hand it over to the Admella ship, which no one wants to board, and they demand his wage for a month's work. After that, Joe hits the girl Frieda because she stole some of the money for herself.

Composition: Eugene O'Neill, Translation: Naeem Attiyah.

This story seems to be a portrayal of the seedy and often immoral world of sailors and those associated with them. The characters' actions and behaviors are driven by various motives such as greed, alcoholism, and a sense of desperation. It also shows the power dynamics between different individuals, with Joe exerting his authority over Frieda. The story leaves the reader with a sense of the harsh realities and the consequences of one's actions in such a setting.

When fate is hidden, it doesn't matter to me.

And when I trust the betrayal of the days and the faces, and I wake up in a state other than the state.

I really hoped that there would be a happy ending.

However, life often doesn't go as we expect. Sometimes, we face disappointments and setbacks that make us feel lost and helpless. But we have to keep going, because giving up is not an option.

We should learn from our experiences and grow stronger. Maybe, one day, we will look back on our past and realize that all the hardships we endured were worth it.

So, let's not be afraid of the unknown and keep moving forward with hope and determination.

One of the remarkable works of O'Neill is that he has much better short plays. Perhaps it is the vocal performance that saves them from dullness.

However, the plot and the development of the story are not attractive, and the reader can predict its course and ending, which greatly weakens the element of surprise.

This lack of excitement makes the plays less engaging and may cause the audience to lose interest.

Nevertheless, O'Neill's talent still shines through in some aspects, such as his character development and the exploration of human nature.

Overall, while his short plays may have some flaws, they still offer valuable insights into the human condition.

At first, I wasn't very keen on reading this.

However, I had to do it for a class of mine.

I ended up reading it, and after the first part, I just wanted to keep reading more and more.

This play was elaborate in many ways.

The character development felt strong, especially considering it was such a short play.

Each character seemed to have their own unique personality and motives, which made them very engaging.

The plot was also well-written, with enough twists and turns to keep me interested.

I found myself completely immersed in the story, and before I knew it, I had finished reading the entire play.

I would highly recommend this play to anyone who is looking for a quick and engaging read.
